Need help to find employment in the Healthcare Field...

Dear Fellow Forum Members,

Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Kateryna, and I'm from the United States. I have recently moved to Basel to live with my boyfriend, who has a good job here. At first sight, Switzerland appeared amazing and beautiful, and I was beyond excited to start my life here...However, after 4 months of endless job searching with no results, I'm starting to go crazy.

I'm a physiotherapist/physical therapist by education (got my diploma in the US) and absolutely love my profession. I worked in various fields, i.e. orthopedics, neurology, sports medicine, hospital inpatient. My passion, however, has always been sports medicine and fitness industry. I've done personal training and preventative care, wellness education, ergonomic assessments. In any case, my biggest problem is lack of German language (i'm in the process of learning, but I need fluent German to land any of the physio jobs I've found advertised online thus far, which is going to take time....).

My question to you all is, does anyone know of any recruitment agencies specific to the healthcare field, especially fitness/therapy industry? I've read a ton of useful info on this forum re: recruitment agencies and websites, but most of the english speaking jobs in Switzerland are for IT/Pharmaceuticals/Finance/Banking/Consulting. I have not been able to find an agency for healthcare recruitment, perhaps it does not exist. But I thought I would share my story with all of you for any possible advice/help/encouragement

Also, does anyone know of any fitness/sport centers where majority of the clientele is English speaking? I know many fitness centers have physiotherapists on staff who provide consulting and treatment to their clients, so I thought maybe that's an area where I could see english speaking clients and provide physiotherapy services... Any help, ideas, are greatly appreciated!!!

Many thanks!

If you can, take the time to do full time study in German (I realise this is not always possible, but if you have the option, use it).

In parallel, why not volunteer to clubs. Most people speak English and if you are offering support for free, they may take you up on it.

Not only will it keep your skills "live", it may even help you improve your German faster.

For starters, I know Basel Rugby Club do a lot in English, and having a physio on board is a valuable asset, and will even get you an additional string to your social life if you want.

There was also a Basel hockey club advert/call for players today on EF, and it was in English, so maybe another opportunity.

Ultimately, if you want a "local" job though, you'll need to get that German up to speed. As for 4 months, it isn't that long to be looking for a job, especially if your German isn't up to speed.

Good luck.

Edit: Ooops. Original post from start of 2012...
