Unfairly let go after 2 weeks?

Hi everyone,

I have found this site very useful so far and would appreciate any advice with my problem.

I will bullet point it for brevity:

Skype interview process for a 6 month job in a school in Switzerland - mentoring one high-profile student

Verbal offer made via recruitment agency

I request written contract in order to give notice in my then permanent role

Email letter of offer stating offer of job, money, duration benefits signed by the school - contract with the school

I resign

A week later I receive a "full" contract with additional clause - "if student is expelled, my contract will terminate at end of month"

I query this clause, informally advised, "it never happens"

I sign

I start role, 2 weeks, goes well. One minor incident, alas student gets expelled.

No formal notice

Verbally informed the school will aim to find other work that will be close to original salary

I say I will wait for a number/offer

3 weeks later I am offered a contract a seventh of my previous offer

Could anybody advise me if my original contract is still valid?

Can a contract be made dependent on a third party?

Help!

I was not advised the student was in danger of being expelled, is this relevant?

Have I signed my 6 months away?!

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
Many thanks

Re: Unfairly let go after 2 weeks?

Not good news, I'm afraid.

Generally speaking, a Swiss employment contact can be ended by either party, for any reason, as long as they give the required notice.

In the first three months, that might be as little as 1 week notice.

You might have the moral high ground, but it's not really going to help you.
