Urgently looking for part-time work in for native english speakerswitzerland!

Hi there.

I am a native English speaker, as I am from New Zealand, and I am URGENTLY looking for part-time work in any area of employment.

I am based in Ebikon, however I won't mind travelling, I also have a visa/Passport B to work here.

I am having trouble finding anything which is why I am posting on here.

Any advice, tips, known jobs or where to look?

Would be really appreciated!

Re: Urgently looking for part-time work in for native english speakerswitzerland!

Are you registered with the local unemployment office ?

If not, you should try to see if they can help, even if you are not eligible for unemployment payments.

Secondly, do you have expertise ? Maybe give an idea of what you 'can' do and your experience, and then people who are here on the forum might be able to link you to ideas.

The other advice is to network, network, network - try the local community centre (Gemeinshaftzentrum), churches, noticeboards at the supermarket, post an advert if you can babysit, tutor, clean.

Try companies that offer local services - cleaning, restaurants (how's your German?), pubs, clubs. Make connections. Go to local expat events, join groups that have english-speaking people involved...

Try also charity groups - the brockenhaus (charity second-hand shops) seem to employ people of varying cultural backgrounds. - salvation army (Heilsarmee), red cross, caritas.

I'm guessing you have found yourself in a difficult financial situation - make decisions to down-size as quickly as possible, if you can cut your budget in any area...

Do you have a 'dependent spouse' B, or are you married to a swiss citizen ? When you apply for jobs, make sure you make that really clear - because lots of employers would be put off if they think you need a new work permit - it's easy for them to phone the work authorities and check your status, but you have to tell them that!

good Luck!

Re: Urgently looking for part-time work in for native english speakerswitzerland!

Hey.

Thanks for all this advice and tips.
I am married to a Swiss-Citizen and my German is very basic at the moment which is why I am looking for work that requires english speakers. As for the financial situation, you could say that being completely broke is a difficult financial situation haha!

I have previously worked as a babysitter, at a petrol station, at a supermarket, and at a bakery/cafe. I also grew up on a farm so I have some work experience there too. However this was all in New Zealand.

Thankyou again.

There was the Irish pub in my dorf, about 30 mins trainride from you, that was looking for staff right before it opened last week... could try your luck there, it's english service, so i'm assuming only english is required... Look through This thread...
