Equestrian Employment

Hello All,

I have looked at some sites regarding employment in the Equine Industry, but luck does not to seem to be on my side.

I have checked Careergrooms.co.uk and Yardandgroom.com including the general google search sites but they seem small, American or just never updated.

Maybe I am searching all wrong.

Could anyone advise me of any other places to look around at?

Many thanks,

Asp

Re: Equestrian Employment

There doesn't seem to be a big equine "industry" in CH as there is not much racing. As you are in SG you might do better looking in southern Germany and in Austria, I know a few big stables (specialising in Arabians) not too far from the border.

The main farming and agriculture magazine for Switzerland is Tierwelt, take a look there for starters.

If you need any "practice" you can always come and help us on a Sunday, we're in SG on Flumserberg. My wife might be able to suggest some stables to contact for work.

Re: Equestrian Employment

In the French part of Switzerland, there is a weekly paper called 'Terre et Nature' - which would be a good place to look for jobs or advertise yourself.

To place an ad

If you need help with the wording in French- do ask.

Re: Equestrian Employment

Hi aspire,
it kind of depends on what you are looking for... any kind of equestrian job? Jumping, dressage, track racing ... what level/experience...
Grown up in the jumping business, I'd say, try to go to the bigger stables. Ask them directly A few years ago, those jobs went mainly by word of mouth. Tierwelt and some other magazines you find at the kiosks have other adds too. There are many stables here in CH. Good luck!

Re: Equestrian Employment

There is quite an active equestrian "industry" in the Swiss French part (mostly towards Geneva). It is focused on horse jumping and polo. There are also some stores that cater to horse owners. One is located in Crissier (near Lausanne). It is called Fressnapf. I think that it is a CH chain of stores.

Since I am not involved I can't offer any specific suggestions but try doing some research via the vets that treat horses. A bit of Google work should get you some names. Then a call or email should move things along.

I imagine that you already have some/significant experience in the area?

Re: Equestrian Employment

Thank you all.

I have been riding for 15 years, mostly jumping but have done Dressage, Gymkhana and Cross country and have previously worked on Jumping, racing and livery yards.

I am not too picky really I would like to ride, not necessary compete. I am willing to really look into anything.

I will check the links out and see what I can find.

Again Thanks!

Proving that old adage, that indeed "Only Fools & Horses work".

Seriously though, good luck with the job hunting!!! I hope you find something soon.

Here's a link I found quickly to maybe help you on your way.

http://www.pferdewoche.ch/anzeigen/m...tz-uebersicht/

Just download the PDFs listed, for example "Stellenbörse Pferdepfleger/indes TierGesundheitsZentrum 80%" in Uzwil. Lots of jobs in this magazine.

You may even want to place an Advert yourself. I wouldn't let the language barrier stop you. Horses don't speak Swiss Germany anyway.

Cheers,
Delboy
