Re: Coming to Switzerland and working as a doctor?
My husband has recently started working at the Triemli Hospital in Zurich - probably the only thing he hasn't been asked is about his qualifications. I'm not sure he's even shown his GMC (UK registration) card.
He is doing a one year clinical research fellowship - postdoctoral clinical research - he got the post by being introduced to the professor and applying and gaining a grant from a European body that pays his salary.
Which is where one of the problems is - he's not formal staff at the Triemli, which does not have a vacancy for someone like him, so they wouldn't initially write him a contract, which has made it hard for him to register here, and very hard to find accomodation.
The hospital training structure is very formal and hierarchical, they promote their candidates, so I'm not sure vacancies even arise. The hospital said something about advertising the job to anyone in Switzerland - and since there was no job, another reason for no contract.
Luckily things have been sorted out but I'm not sure where vacancies are advertised, if they arise.
