CLEANING RATES???

A professional in Switzerland would charge somewhere around 120-160 an HOUR.
Right, in average - 130 CHF/h. Or somewhere between 1,50-2,50 CHF per line/50 characters (which I prefer), based on time limit.
Kamarate, looks like you had to do some editing as well - so just for your note, min. editing rate is 2,50 CHF per line.

Re: Cost of proof-reading

Maybe you could ask your employer what they would charge for this kind of work, tell the consumer what the going rate is, and then give a 10 - 15% discount. That way you are in line with the market, and the consumer can only be pleased to have saved a little money.

Also, don't short-change yourself (or let anyone here short-change you). This IS your profession. You are highly trained and qualified (not just someone who happens to speak english), and deserve a reasonable hourly rate. Not many people on here would be happy with 40CHF/hour, and you deserve to be paid properly given your qualifications.

Re: Cost of proof-reading

Just a little update - saw the guy today and he gave me 200CHF plus 2 bottles of wine! Very nice of him, and just goes to show that being honest is the best policy!

So next time you get asked you can confidently say 50-60 an hour!
