Re: Interview dress code question

Anyone that ever showed up in a job interview wearing a suit....
And not getting the job because they were wearing a suit?

According to what I read here I wonder a bit now: Is dressing codes that different from company to company in Zürich?

I cannot imagine going to a bank or financial company for job interview in anything but a suit?

So isn't it so that by wearing suit you not only show respect to the place you go for job interview, but just as well respect to yourself and who you are

Whether you choose to go in a suit or not, a Unix T-Shirt is a must in all cases! It will earn you brownie points and set you apart from the crowd

Not if it's a Microsoft-support job you're interviewing for ...

Re: Interview dress code question

It depends a lot on the job level. When I was interviewing for my current position (Senior Manager), of course I wore a suit. I also wore a suit and tie for my first day on the job (and then noticed I was the only one in the office wearing a suit!).

When I was hiring junior consultants, I wouldn't hire anyone who didn't show up dressed professionally. But again, this was for a customer-facing role in a consulting company. If I was hiring a back-office programmer, I might consider someone who is dressed well (Polo shirt and slacks), but if you show up in a Linux T-shirt and torn jeans, you have to work that much harder to impress me.

As mentioned above, if I have to choose between 2 similar candidates and one was dressed professionally at the interview, that person will have an advantage.

3. Good for you, I hope you get it and glad you did the research first As you stated you were wearing SUIT trousers did you also take the Jacket too incase the need arose for it? Two looks with one outfit and all that...
Got the job. But generally "depends on the company/position" is a much better answer than "always wear a suit".

Re: Interview dress code question

No, it is not required for the inteview, and if you are outstanding, you may even get the job even in a t-shirt.

But, the question is: why would you handicap your chances? assuming you do want to job... if you don't, or aren't sure, save your time (and the interviewer's); if you do, put all chances on your side. Don a pressed suit, a proper (aka, a freshly laundered, ironed, white or light blue) shirt, and a tie. Smile, and hope for the best.

It is not different in Switzerland as everywhere else. In the end, it is your choice - but it is sort of a Pascal's wager.
