Notice period and bonus question

Hi all, I've got a question about how the notice period at work would affect bonus payments and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been working in Switzerland since April 2010, and have been on 1 year contracts that thus far have been renewed. I've been offered a job back in the UK which I'm tempted to take. The job can start any time, but I've got a 3 month notice period in my contract here and I'm tied up in projects until at least October anyway.

My question is that if I ask to be released from my current contract in October, what would happen to my 13th month salary (usually paid in January)? Would it be best just to wait until it has been paid, give notice at the end of January and then I'd basically finish without breaking any contracts?

Re: Notice period and bonus question

your 13th gets divided by 12 and multiplied with the number of months you've worked. The non-13th bonus (at least in all the jobs I had) you only get if you are still working with the company at a certain date. It will all be in the fine-print of your contract.

Is it a 13th month or a bonus?

A 13th month is a guaranteed part of your basic salary. It will be paid on a pro rata basis if you leave the company.

A bonus is generally not guaranteed. The company will probably not pay it out.
