Temporary contract through an agency.. Rates?

Hi,

A friend of mine has got a temporary contract staring septemebrr until end of April at one of the big pharma company.

The agency through which the placement occurs have offered a rate of 38.6 per hour. This seems very little considering that a nanny would cost 30 per hour.

Does anyone know the range of these rates? The position is of data management. And can one negoatiate the price, if yes, should it be with the agency or the pharma company?

Thanks.

The pharma company is probably paying 40 to 45 an hour for semi skilled labour, and the agency is making a tidy profit.

It depends how desperate your friend is doesn't it?

Yes, it depends on how desparate he/she is. But having lost your job and not getting this one(because of stating that you could start only in August - hence the job has gone to the other lady, who will go on maternity leave), One would feel that something is bett than nothing. But not sellyourself short.

Sothe question would be: to negotaiate with the company or the agency?

It looks to me that they are really in need of someone soon, since the lady is scheduled to take holidays from end of Sept.

I don't hold any hope, but you could try to negotiate an increase the salary. Temporary jobs are just that, flat pay rate for a fixed period.

BUT! Sometimes you get to see the internally advertised jobs, and for this reason I would go for the job and look for something better.
