Hiring own wife?

Hi all!

I am an independent worker and i'm planning with my wife to have her working with me 10-12 hours a week to help me with the job.

My questions:

- can i hire her as part time worker or do i need to crate an individual company?
- will this give her right to the 200chf per son family allowances?

thanks a lot!

Re: Hiring own wife?

I really thought this thread was going to go in a different direction after I read the title. Slightly disappointed, but carry on...

For such a short period of time get her to invoice you for her work done, she then can declare that on her tax return as part time work and you on yours as a cost...

As to the other question isn't that your son's money given to you to care for them on their behalf so doesn't belong to either of you ?

You can hire her as a part time worker. Do you work through a GmbH, or are you self-employed?

Either way, you have to account for her social contributions (and quellensteuer if she's on a B permit). You should be getting the 200CHF family allowance yourself - why would you need your wife to have it?

Re: Hiring own wife?

Has the law changed recently? I thought the self employed do not pay into the fund and cannot claim child allowance.

Re: Hiring own wife?

I don't know the details of self-employment, but if he's operating through a GmbH, then his company pays reduced AHV for each child, which is then passed on to the employee.

If he's not operating through a GmbH/AG, and employs his wife, then I can't see why he wouldn't pay reduced AHV, when accounting for employer contributions for her, for each child. I am not an accountant. 12 hours a week may not be sufficient.

Whether self-employed or employed through your own company - AHV must still be accounted for.

Re: Hiring own wife?

Maybe it's a child from a previous marriage of hers and then not his child. I'm sorry op I have no idea how would that work
