Work permits for banking industry?

Hello,

I'm attending a Master's program in St. Gallen, I am not European; does anyone have any idea how it could be like to get a work permit to work entry-level as an Analyst at a bank or can they easily just fill these positions with Swiss and EU?

Re: Work permits for banking industry?

I'm an American citizen (but technically it doesn't matter because it's all non-EU and all the same),

Well with all the layoffs in the banking industry over the past few years and another round in the offing by the looks of things, I'd imagine that it would be very hard for a bank to argue that it can't find a local or EU person to fill the positions... but who knows, strange things do happen here

The company has to prove they looked for a certain amount of time in Switzerland and the EU, they would sponsor you and you need a contract to get a visa here. Have you done an internship with one of the banks. That or join a professional network to start building relationships and hopefully get an offer.

I haven't done an internship, but I just started the programming and going to look heavily to do any kind of internship possible.
