Today i was told that our boss has put a letter round for all to sign to say that they will not drink energy drinks at work or in their breaks.

Is this allowed
How do they define "energy" drinks; sounds a bit vague to me...

Re: Energy Drinks ( at work )

Is this one of those things where, by circulating a letter, it's "voluntary," until the boss sees your name missing and decides to do a little "follow-up"?

Firstly 'you were told' well, did you or did you not get a form to sign?.

Secondly, I can understand that it is expected that adult leaders in a Kindergarten do not set a bad example by drinking such stuff.

Just decant your red bull into a flask, though I suppose it would lose its fizz. (Does Red Bull fizz? I must be one of the few people in Switzerland who has never tried one).

That`s exactly what I was thinking as I perused this thread.

Put whatever you want to drink into one of those sealed cup things, and say it`s "tea".

Thinking about the other part of your post, about hanging outside and smoking - if you need a smoke, why not take a short walk away from the building? Kids may not see you, but it does nothing for the reputation of the place to have the staff puffing outside during their breaks, while cracking open their Energy drinks!

This is someone`s "place of business" and it deals with small children, try and see the broader picture here?

Stinks like Benylin cough syrup, though . Anyone within a 10m radius would smell it.

You could drink it with a spoon, coughing between slurps .

Re: Energy Drinks ( at work )

Ive just read all your comments, lol. The energy drinks in question are red bull adn the ones that say energy on the can. i must admit i dont drink it all the time, only with vodka will i touch the stuff ( not at work ) lol. All energy drinks have a huge amount of caffiene in them, then i noticed she was making a coffee for herself and put 2 huge spoons of coffee in the cup, probably the sme amount what is in the cans, It was a letter that went round and everyone was told to read it and sign it. I used to work with the kids but now i wor in the kitchen ( safest place away from her) so i have not been asked to sign it. She also dont want to see the empty cans in the bins.

Perhaps she is trying to protect you, from dental erosion. Somehow, I doubt it, but would be nice...

Re: Energy Drinks ( at work )

I am inclined to think that the owner of any business does have the right to make rules about what food and drinks are allowed on their premises.

Personally, if I came to a childcare centre and found staff smoking on the premises, it would not create a positive impression with me.

If I saw someone drinking Redbull, I would wonder why they felt the need for it - I would prefer to think that staff were getting enough sleep to have the energy to get through the day, rather than resorting to such drinks.

Nick, it's actually very common to have a "no hot drinks" around the children rule in childcare centres and in many schools as well - over the years, I have tried to warm my hands on a vaguely luke warm cocoa whilst on many a cold morning gate duty in various countries :-)
