interviewing while employed

it is nearly november, and my contract is expiring in december. as of right now, i have no information as to whether my company is able to offer me a new contract, so i'm starting to look for other jobs just in case.

i am still early in my career and this would be my first time switching jobs while currently employed. when are you supposed to schedule interviews with prospective employers? are companies obligated to give you time off to interview for other jobs if they have not given you a new contract or any information about the prospect of a new contract? or are you just supposed to leave early/arrive late without anyone being the wiser?

if i don't have a new offer after december, this will not be an issue, but i got invited for an interview in november and i want to make sure i do it right!

thanks in advance for your help/advice!

Re: interviewing while employed

Your existing company doesn´t have to give you any time off if you are coming to the end of a contract, you just have to disappear on the quiet for a few hours or take a day / half-day holiday.
