Transferring Pension into Switzerland

Hi,

I am moving now hopefully permanently to Switzerland. I would like to consolidate all of my pensions in one place. I'm American but I have earned pensions in the UK, Germany and of course the US. I also now have Swiss AHV and BVG

1. Can I transfer the US Social Security to AHV?
2. Can I transfer the Pillar I contributions (Social Insurance) from UK and Germany into AHV?
3. What about employer funded public pensions (Second Pillar) from UK or Germany?

Thanks

Re: Transferring Pension into Switzerland

Most non-EU plans will not transfer nor are compatible with CH plans. You cannot 'transfer' US social security. There are bilateral agreements that generally help when you retire, depending on where and numbers of years contributed.

Secondly, as US person, I would be extremely careful on consolidating all this due to the US tax consequences of this. Surely most of this is non-qualified in eyes of the IRS, which means nothing but pain. A qualified tax consultatant would likely be necessary at a minimum before even thinking about going this route.

As for German and UK plans, have a search on the forum I believe there are many threads.

First pillar/social security. No transfers possible. CH has bilateral agreements with all those countries I believe that gives credit for contributions in the respective countries where needed (ie you are treated as having a full career of contributions even if only 5 years were worked in country XYZ. For the US I think you need 10 years/40 quarters contributions though). My father for example has proportional pensions from the UK, USA, Germany, France and Switzerland...

Second pillar. Yes. For the UK search "QROPS". For Germany I am not familiar with the mechanics. You should be very cautious moving any sort of defined benefit rights.
