C permit and Self-employment – which local office do I need to go to get started?

Hi,

I’ve a question about becoming self-employed that I hope someone who has gone through similar situation could point me to the right place.

I’ve a C permit. I live in Lausanne. I am not under any social assistance or taking unemployment. Several people have asked me if I would do work for them as an independent consultant. This means I need to become self-employed (get the self-employed status.)

My question is, which local office do I need to go visit first to get this set up and any related questions answered? I don’t really want to start a company (unless that is a prerequisite of self-employment?) – I simply want to be able to take projects, get paid as an independent and pay AVS, first pillar or any kind of insurances needed and taxes, etc., as a self-employed person.

I found something online, but the page doesn’t really tell me which office to visit to obtain the “self-employed status” : (

Thanks in advance.

Thanks!!
Seems like I need to form a
L'entreprise individuelle

What I'm not sure (language interpretation) is whether I need to register with the "registre du commerce".

L'inscription au registre du commerce est obligatoire:
1. pour une activité professionnelle exercée en la forme commerciale,
2. lorsque le revenu annuel dépasse CHF 100'000.-.

I know I won't meet condition "2", at least the first year. But I don't know "taking project and getting paid for it" constitute "1. pour une activité professionnelle exercée en la forme commerciale," therefore, need to register with "registre du commerce"?

What I do is more like independent consultant "freelancing consultant".

If anyone could shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it. Merci!

Your almost certainly an employee in CH & your not freelance at all.
You don't take any risk, you work for the same company & receive a similar amount of money each month......
If you had an office, a website, were available to work for anyone but had ZERO work, you would indeed be self employed.

Or keep things simpler with payroll management (portage salariale) - see my recent thread. I've got phone calls lined up with helvetic payroll and another one. I'll update after that.
