Leaving CH and coming back - Unemployment benefit

Dear All,

Have worked in CH for the past 4 years. I have been given the option to make an internal move within my company to the UK. I am seriously considering it for a couple of years, before eventually coming back here.

My question: Does anyone know if in the event I do not like it there and quit (or am let go for some reason) after a year, or when I do decide to come back, if I will be paid unemployment until I find a new job here?
If yes, would it be a minimal amount? Will it be the percentage of what I have been contributing up until now? Will it be a percentage of what I will earn in UK?

PS: I hold a swiss passport

Usually people who move from the EU/etc get what you are entitled to at home for three months, unless the bilaterals change in the meantime. Then who knows.

Thanks for the reply. So if I understand you correctly, UK would pay me for 3 months an amount equivalent to what Switzerland would pay me had I worked in Switzerland?
So that gives me 3 months to find a job if I come back.

Good to know.

Euh no, I think she meant you would get the UK unemployement pay for 3 months whilst you look for a job in CH.

But this only under current agreements, might change.

No. Sorry. "at home" in this case means the country you are coming FROM. Not the one you are going TO.

So, you would collect the amount due to you from the UK, but in Switzerland for 3 months. NOT the Swiss equivalent.

Well if you are EU passport holder, Switerland will "pay" you 3 months to try to find work in your own country. It might even be 6 months. It is Switzerland that pays, not the UK. And that thru Unia/RAV. Now if you just leave, and show up in the UK, then the EU being compliant with one another, and if you worked enough in CH, then the UK will give you unemployment benefits as if you had been working in the UK prior. Recently.

What?

If you work in Switzerland and pay into the Swiss system and are eligible for Swiss unemployment then you move to the EU/etc, you will collect Swiss unemployment at the Swiss rate for three months in that new country. Passport is not relevant only that you are legally resident in that new country.

In the case of the OP, he will be paying into the UK system. So if he leaves the UK and returns to Switzerland, he will be eligible* for UK unemployment benefits which he can get paid out in any of the countries that are in the agreement. Currently that includes Switzerland. But he will be given the amount he would get from the UK.

(*we assume, not sure what the rules are for the UK. Maybe quitting your jobs does not qualify there)
