| | Registration as a Psychologist
Does anyone with British psychology qualficiations have any experience of becoming a member of Die Föderation der Schweiyer Psychologinnen und Psychologen (FSP)?
There does not seem to be any reciprocal arrangement in place - unless someone here knows otherwise?
I have contacted my FSP regional office andhave asked for degree certificates and official comparison documents. A lot of paperwork and huge amount of time and energy. I am registered with the UK BPS and the UK government's HCPC (all heath professionals must be registered by this body).
The law changed recently to protect the title of Psychologist. I am self employed so not worried about the job market, just the registration.
Thank you.

Are you aware of the new Europsych qualification that is being implemented? There is a team in the BPS with details of this, they have been working to implement the standard, I'm not fully conversant with the details but it was being promoted at the BPS conference I attended recently.

There is a psychology association that would be responsible for the licencing.
It is definitely a protected title in Switzerland. I would suggest you speak to the Swiss association.

Thank you, I was not aware of the Europsych qualification but have contacted the BPS about international recognition but they did not have any information.
Also I have spoken with the Swiss association. To join I have to go right back to my degrees and get a transcript of every area covered so they can compare it. With almsot 15 years of working as an ed psych and carrying the protected title in the UK, it would be far easier to have my professional registration recognised.

The BPS told me: In fact, the award of EuroPsy is based on national recognition as a practitioner psychologist and in UK terms, that translates to completion of a Society-and HCPC-accredited programme of professional training leading to automatic entitlement to Chartered status and HCPC-registration. | The following 2 users would like to thank jwlhall for this useful post: | |

Hi, I'm a BPS member and HCPC registered in the UK and currently going through the process with the FSP myself.
I had to go through the Psychologieberufekommission and firstly get my qualifications made equivalent. This does mean getting all your transcripts from any universities you've studied with and providing the European transfer credits points (ECTS) and Credit accumulation and transfer score (CATS) for the courses you studied on. You'll also need to provide various other bits of paperwork too, which they list on the form.
To join the FSP I needed the certificate from the berufskommission first and then I had to join a local psychology association before I could then join the FSP (my local association processed both memberships together).
As the various groups don't seem to meet too often the process can take a long time. There is also a lot of paperwork and it is somewhat costly too. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any other way than following this process.
If I can help you any further just give me a shout.
Good luck,
Emily

Hello. I have Australian Qualifications and am a BPS member and have the FSP membership. You need the Annerkennung from the Psykobag Kommission first to say that your qualifications are equal to that of a Swiss degree. This is difficult to get for psychotherapy but not as difficult for psychology. If you want more details please feel free to PM me!

Thanks for those on this thread, this is really helpful as I am wanting to register as a psychologist in Switzerland too.
How long did the process take in all? Hoping and assuming it's done by now!?

I also have Australian qualifications and doing my Master in Italy. Can you please tell me what languages you need to know in order to get registered as a clinical psychologist and wheather a Master degree is enough for this purpose or PHD is also needed?
Thanks

Hi!
I am Greek and intend to move to Switzerland , so I try to find how it would be possible for me to get a licence to work - I guess in the private field. I have a bachelor degree from Greek University and a licence to work in Greece, as well as a master of science from English Univeristy.
Could you please help me as to which is the procedure to get the permission to work there....

Hi, I am planning to do my Masters course in UK, ( I'm BPS member) and have a question - after it will be completed, can I open a private practice in Switzerland? I read in some cases you need to live here 5 or 10 continuing years...to be registered. I live here from 2014 and have B permit. May be smb can share their path from the beginning to the end here in Switzerland. thank you!
