What document should I include in a job application dossier?

Hi. realized that maybe I have been doing things wrong.

So far I only include a motivation letter and a CV.

But I read some online tips which says that I should include other documents, such as the employment references from past employers, copy of diploma... etc

Of course you should include references from the former employer, copy of diploma, a copy of your work permit and a copy of your driving licence.

I can understand references and education, but never heard of being asked to post a copy of your permit and driving licence. Would that be a security risk, I wonder? A lot of people could have access to it.

Re: What document should I include in a job application dossier?

Since my spouse has been looking for a job for months here, I can share some thoughts.

We lived in Milan, London, New York (working in all of these places), and are now in Basel. The application process here is just ridiculous and completely unstructured, and it is totally far away from what happens on other big markets. Everyone will tell you a specific hint: add a picture on your CV, or maybe not, add your marital status, don't do it, include reference letters, skip reference letters and provide them only on request, ... I can go on for months. It is all random, so I would not bother too much.

Since the average head hunter is far less careful than a comparable professional abroad (and you see it from the questions they ask during interviews), the suggestion I can give is: apply to anything you see moving (despite you may not match all the requirements, usually they don't notice), network as much as you can, and be patient. Endurance is key here, as everybody approaches life at much a slower pace.

CV and cover letter are just fine, experience tells us that the average HR doesn't even read a CV fully, I personally don't think they would read any recommendation letter anyway.

And usually I should put the list of referees in a different document, or just put the referee list in the end of my CV?

Re: What document should I include in a job application dossier?

I was on the phone this morning with a friend who hires people at one of the cantons. She sent me a link for a job in her canton. She said cover letter, CV and diplomas.

It is not necessary that you add a copy of your driver's license or permit unless specifically asked. Though I've never seen it asked. Maybe if you are apply for a job as a driver....
