RAV Question..

Hi all,

I moved recently to Appenzell-Switzerland (10 months ago). I have a permit B, and in the beginning of 2014 I found a job in Geneva (after 6 months searching) as a Junior Financial Analyst. The agreement was to work in their factory in Egypt, but unfortunately I didn't get Visa cause I'm "Syrian" (political thing), so after two months of working I've got terminated. And since then (1st March) I've been looking for a new opportunity, I've sent 200 CV within last 2 months, I've had couple of interviews but still nothing.

And by chance a friend of mine mention the RAV, that they can help me as long as I'm a resident in Switzerland.

So can they help? Where to start? Can I register to any RAV, or it should be just Appenzell? Does the language matter,(my German not that good, A2 maybe)?

I'll be appreciated if you help me with that, I don't know what to do more to find a job..

Thanks in advance..

A.Katranji

Re: RAV Question..

Exactly what type of permit is it? Dependent's or did you get it via your employer? If the latter, then it's probably tied to them and as you're no longer working for them it's invalid.

You could try RAV, but I think if you haven't been working here for very long, i.e. only the one job for a couple of months, there's not likely anything they'll be able to do if the permit no longer applies.

If it's a dependent's permit then they may help you with a language course to help improve your employment prospects.

Re: RAV Question..

You are only entitled to unemployment money if you have worked for at least 12 months within the last two years. This is not the case.

Also, as previous poster said, what kind of B permit is this? Tied to the employer? Tied to a partner/husband/wife?

Re: RAV Question..

Thank you for your reply..

My permit still valid, and it's not related to my employer..

Can RAV in this case help me find a job!? I'm not looking for the unemployment money, just wondering if they can help?
Can I register to RAV in other cantons? And how can I join the "language courses" you mentioned?

Thanks!

Re: RAV Question..

You need to contact your RAV office and see what they say. They may be able arrange a course for you and advise on other things to help you get back to work. Otherwise it's down to you to find job possibilities and apply for them.

Re: RAV Question..

Just contact your local RAV. They may be able to let you know about Language course as well as the cost.

Agencies you may apply to as many as you like

Re: RAV Question..

There's no need or reason to contact several different RAV offices. Your local one will deal with any courses/training and they should also have details of jobs from all over Switzerland that you can check on and apply for. If you were entitled to claim unemployment your local RAV office would become your employer.

Working for 12 months anywhere in the EU is the real answer, with salary calculation based on last 6 months average earnings.
