Unemployment allowance after Freelance

Hello,

I have finished working for a company and at the moment I have unemployment allowance rights, however I am thinking about working as freelance if I can't find anything as an employee in a company.

My question is: If this freelance/contract thing does not work after for example 3 or 6 months, do I still have access to the unemployment allowance? Or is it a condition that you need to be an employee in a company to receive it?

I don't want to lose this benefit while I search, so I am confused. Thank you.

(I live in canton Vaud).

Re: Unemployment allowance after Freelance

Ask at the RAV, they have schemes for setting up people as self employed free lancers.

If things don't work out, can you get employment again?

Re: Unemployment allowance after Freelance

Hi Sbrinz, thank you for your answer.

The reason to ask this question is obviously because getting employment is not that easy. Of course I would love to get employment again if things don't work as expected! However, I want to be sure that if I take the step to start as self employed, I am not going to lose my unemployment allowance, which is always my backup plan.

Thanks

You can do short contracts throughout your rahemnfrist.
You will build up a new rahemnfrist if you work more then 12 months in 24.
Freelance in CH means being an EMPLOYEE working for multiple companies. You can also do self employed work, however it won't be allowed if your actually an employee of a CH company.

If you want to set up a business, the RAV will pay upto 3 months preparation time, however it stops the day you open for business. Your existing rahemnfrist would be doubled, so you have up to 4 years to use existing benefits if you business fails.

Maybe I am confused about what being freelance/contractor/self employed means...

I know people who are independent contractors (which I think it means freelance, not employed by a company, paying your own taxes). At the moment I am paying my unemployment insurance through my current company, who deducts it from the paycheck. Once I am an independent contractor, can I do it myself? I thought that being independent is like being your own company...
