| | how to ask for feedback after get rejected by JOB application?
hi
i have a general question.
can i ask for feedback after i got rejected by the job application here ? i got rejected yesterday by email of my application, but i really want to know why?
do you think it is normal to ask them the reasons?
and i just found the line manager profile on Linkedin, is it smart that i try to contact this person directly?
thank you

Unlikely, you'll get feedback; don't contact anyone privately; just let it go - it could be for 101 different reasons.
From what I understand, you're lucky to get notification of your unsuccessful candidature.
Depending on the actual position for which you applied, sometimes an appointment is already decided upon, but protocol dictates that the company still has to advertise the position.
All you can do, is do what you believe to be right at interviews and concentrate on your positives - and not the negatives of what's already gone before, which you can't change.

I got a job rejection last summer by email (as that was how I'd applied). I emailed the lady back and said something along the lines of "Thank you for letting me know, I am sorry to hear that blah blah blah…. would you mind letting me know what skills I was missing so I can address this for future job applications blah blah" ….. she got straight back to me with feedback .

If you applied through a head hunter, ask him/her.
I´d personally not go through Linked-In if you did not receive the email/business card from the person you spoke to (at east I wouldn´t much like that myself).

I think you won't miss much if you ask for feedback. I would say it is worth it.
My fiancee is applying for jobs now and when she is rejected. She asks. The HR company would ask the person in charge of the project, and that person usually replies. Not harm done.

I was an HR Manager back in Canada. I would gladly provide constructive feedback when asked. I once told a candidate that his shirt should always be ironed, whether for work or an interview. Have provided tips on grooming too. Grammatical errors on resumes are another no-no. Or candidates who use a cover letter template, but have forgotten to change the company's name. Hopefully you're dealing with someone with a heart.

Depends on what stage your in. I'm not clear as to whether you've had an interview already or not. Judging from your "I found the line manager on LinkedIn", my guess is you haven't met anyone from this company in person, otherwise you'd probably already have a business card or at least an e-mail address of someone.
That being said, if you had an interview or even several, you can ask for feedback and probably should, though I wouldn't exactly expect much. More often than not, there's no "tangible" reason, it's simply that someone else was a tad better than you.
If it's in the application phase, i.e. you haven't even been invited to an interview, then I would not even consider asking for feedback. You're probably one of dozens or hundreds of applicants, and there is probably simply no reason why you weren't invited for an interivew.
Also, if it's a big company, it's very unlikely that the line manager did this pre-screening himself. So if I were that line manager and got a message on LinkedIn from some random person I don't know, asking for feedback on an application I probably haven't even seen, I would not reply and actually perceive the behavior as aggressive (I realize others will disagree with this statement)

It certainly wouldn't harm to ask for feedback. Especially if it was your interview technique or CV which was the deciding factor. Those things you can always improve upon. If it was simply your skillset wasn't appropriate, then that's easy, just move on.
