Opinion needed - backup job offer

I work with a big fat company with offices in almost every corner of Europe. There's 60/70% chance that they will process my transfer to CH. But since it's a big, fat company, the process is going through 10 hoops and approvals, and that's making me nervous. So I am starting to look around. I have no issues with my current employer, and actually quite like their culture/policies etc.

With 8 years in IT, having developed myself ground up, and with permit being non-issue, I believe my chances should be bright. But getting a good 100k offer will take HUGE time and energy, and doing that just for a fallback job offer doesn't quite feel right, because I may be really annoying some nice HR lady and potentially getting on their blacklist. CH kinda feels small where all HR people probably gossip among each other. So, I really don't want to annoy anyone - esp. as a newcomer.

I could apply for jobs/companies I'd never join, so their anger won't matter. But that's just waste of my time for some false peace of mind.

What are your opinions on this? How normal is it to say "No, Thanks" to a job in CH? Am I over-thinking / nervous about the situation, just because all jobs are 100k+ (and need super rigorous application) ?

Get a job first, they we can go into the theory of refusing or not

You're overthinking things. And while Switzerland is small, it isn't that small. At the level you'll be at, I doubt any HR drone you upset will have any significant political clout.

I know it's difficult, and that's precisely why I am wondering why I'd invest energy in something only to refuse later. But I tend to agree with the post above - looking at the volume of openings, it doesn't seem to be such thin market, and my worries may be justified at C-level, not when my experience is still in single digits years.

This.

Also, aside from the fact that most companies don't have blacklists anyway, even if they did, no company will blacklist you just because they don't like your face (basically). If anything, you land on a blacklist because you effed up royally on a job, and even then it's unlikely.

And do you seriously think "HR people" from different companies have a circle where they get together regularly to gossip about candidates? Give them a little more credit.

Switzerland may be small, but it's not THAT small. People have better things to do than bitch across companies about some candidate - out of likely hundreds every year - they met once or twice. Why would they? They're hardly out to "get you", you're simply one of many. If someone doesn't 'like' you in an interview for some reason or other, you're not getting hired - that's all.

How interesting!
So confident on the topic of outsourcing, yet:

1) You were unable to easily make a basic relocation decision

2) A 100K offer for computing, at Google and in Zurich and with 8 years experience? Let me laugh... No need to relocate you in India, indeed, you already went cheap without efforts from HR.

3) You will make angry "companies" because you apply to them? Again, maybe it's time to lift your nose up your code... Companies need to have lot of application, it flatters their ego and make them look important. And don't worry if your application is rubbish, it only takes a few seconds to bin it.
And it's in fact someone actual JOB to do that, you know, to reject your pathetic application. At least some people still do their job in Switzerland. Funnily, a few of these HR people are actually stealing employer's time
by posting on EF regularly. Maybe it's time to retest your theory about working 100% of the time, I am sure you will manage to make them angry, at lasts.

4) Sorry for my late response, you asked for opinions. My opinion is you are completely rubbish, unfamiliar as best with the job market in Switzerland, and that you are embarassing yourself for posting. I wish you would do that on your personal basis, and not use your employer's well deserved reputation to attempt to shine a bit more.
And let me laugh, jobs with 100K in Zurich are far from being exclusive or requiring a "super rigorous application". It's close to lowest salaries (entry range) in the field of computing. Maybe you are stressing because you know it represents the annual salary of 10 people in India?

I hope for you, your chances should be bright, at least there will be something bright with you.

OP is confident enough to comment on the outsourcing topic, yet, 2 years ago he was already a pathetic ignorant acting with huge fear to be blacklisted in Switzerland for applying for jobs.

With my generous attitude and heart on my hand, I could not refrain from pointing that out and offer an honest opinion.
