Banks/Financial Inst. redundancy help/opportunities

Given that many of the banks and financial institutions have probably laid off significant amounts of staff of late, does anyone know if any of these larger companies have any kind of “redundancy” help (i.e. perhaps the H.R. departments try to find alternative employment for their staff?).

The reason I ask is that we might have some positions opening up and it would be useful to know if there are such departments we could contact to perhaps link up with people just about to become available.

Of course I could put a call through to HR at one of the banks to find out but wondered first if anyone had knowledge of this to save me from a potentially pointless exercise.
