Any type work requires a permit. Non-European dependent L permit holders are not allowed to work in Switzerland.

That's only applicable if you're going through a swiss bank account right?
What about cash pays? Does that happen at all?

Re: Does working from home needs work permit?

I have worked from home for three years.

My company is based on Zürich and had a Geneva Branch, where I had my office.

When they decided to close Geneva, but keep me in the company, I asked to stay in Geneva as I had all my life going on there and was not ready to move to Zürich.

They allowed me, made me a new contract where it was specified that my working place was at home.

At that time I had a B permit in Geneva, we kept renewing the B permit in Geneva as my new contract specified my that place of work was there, It was not necessary to tell the authorities that my place of work was my home.

Just that I had a valid contract and my workplace was at Geneva.

Hmm

What ever happens if i'm moving in from another country. I'll be on dependent visa. technically I'm not allowed to work. So what happens when you're not with a company.. You freelance?

Paypal?

Re: Does working from home needs work permit?

You can't get a working permit if you are not employed by a swiss company. Working permits are for dependent workers.

If you want to work as an independent, freelance and work from home then you need to request a residence permit as an investor/entrepreneur.

The Swiss Government is presently running a campaign to stop illegal working without permits, without contributing to social security, without paying accident insurance premiums and income taxes.

You may escape detection. If you are, then it is messy for both the employer and the employee.

Please respect the law. Please desist from illegal, unethical and anti-social behavior.

Oh lord goldtop,

Don't get me wrong.. I didn't it like that. I don't mean to say in an illegal way...

I'm only wondering what the options are for a dependant visa or working in swiss.

Graphic design doesn't seem to be a huge market in lausanne for example i see a lot of work happening in london but that's about it. I'm starting to get a little bit worried. Here in India there's immense amount of work and i charge a good $800 for a corporate identity.. But abroad no one's willing to pay!!

If your spouse has an L permit then you cannot work in Switzerland.

SWITZERLAND

not SWISS.

You'll find that typing Swiss instead of Switzerland will annoy a large group of people on this forum. This was, in fact, something that greatly annoyed the founder of this site (who only once had to correct me for using 'CH' instead of 'Switzerland' ).

Lausanne is relatively small. There should be good opportunities in Geneva and more in Zurich. Obviously London is much larger but there are also more designers competing for assignments.

The bigger challenge is for you to network and discover the opportunities. Networking requires language skills. Can you converse in French and German? Another challenge is cultural affinity. A subtle understanding of Swiss and European culture would be a critical success factor for appealing to prevalent local attitudes.

Re: Does working from home needs work permit?

I was thinking maybe working from home again at some point. I did work from home for the best part of the last 6 years. Although I was in the UK working for a US based company. Working on IT infrastructure projects and some support work. I had to resign as UK HR would not allow me to transfer my work here. Something about to many liabilities for the company as an employee. I was thinking of approaching the company again and see if I could not get some contract work with them.

Does anyone know if there any special requirements for something like that?
