Auto entrepeneur in France what is similar in zurich

We are potentially moving to Zurich this summer, and I want to know if it's possible to set up a business similar to an autoentrepeneur in France? It's seems that to be self employed you must earn enough to cover your living costs but as my husband travels all the time it's more of a sanity thing, I do make money selling books and would love to bring it with me but not sure where to get started.. Any help appreciated if it's worthwhile or too expensive?

If your husband makes enough to support you both than this is not an issue.

Assuming you have the right permit you can be self employed. There are some admin things to do depending on how much you make.

Short answer, Yes. There is an equivalent of the "auto entrepreneur". It's called "raison individuelle". Google that instead of "auto entrepreneur".

But again, if you only make a little bit of money, it can be treated as a hobby and the income added to your husband's on your tax returns.

Search terms would be
- selbständigerwerbend, Selbständigerwerbender, selbständige Erwerbstätigkeit
- Einzelfirma
- Unternehmensgründung

If you actually do make profit, you have to register with AHV (AVS), and you have to declare your income (i.e. earnings minus expenses) in your tax declaration.

You only need to register with the commercial register (Handelsregister) and you only need to register for VAT (Mehrwertsteuer/MwSt) if you earn more than CHF 100'000.- per year (turnover/Umsatz, that is).
