A friend of mine is applying for a Quant Engineer position. He will be based in Zurich and would like to know the salary range for this position.

He is heading for an interview on the coming few days and one of the discussion point is about his salary.

Without more information on the person's number of years of experience and educational background, it is difficult for anyone to answer your question...

He is finishing his PHD in Electrical engineering and has no financial experience. He is applying for a junior Quant engineer position. He is very good in Matlab and Java also has a working knowledge of C++, C# and python. He has also project management experience.

This much I know about his qualities I hope this is enough .

As your "friend" is unable to post a simple question on a forum, i would expect the salary to be very low for somebody with such a lack of basic knowledge

well, I don't remember writing any thing which implies he cant post him self. He did his research and I want to help him with more information!

Without knowing where the job is, what it is exactly etc it is hard to assess the salary range. Also note that the job market being what it is lately, an entry level job salary can vary greatly from company to company.

...so what did his research tell him about the salaries for that position in Switzerland? Did it give you a figure to work from?

The range for new PhD grad salaries goes from 40K per year to 200K per year. Since he is a new grad, his 'Project Manager' experience will most likely be considered null.

Use glassdoor.com, but take the results with a pinch of salt, it's not validated.
