Re: Has anyone been able to find work if they only speak English?

The usual way. Come up with a subject and post a thread on it.

However for the MarketPlace there are rules about how soon you can post there.

Is there no "write new thread/post" button? Do you always have to insert a reply into an already existing thread in order to start your own?

You need to introduce yourself first.

I don't speak any German, Italian or French, only English but am currently working for an American firm in Zurich. The business language we use is English and even when I serve clients in Zurich, Basel, Bern etc. we conduct all our meetings and correspondence in English.

So it is possible if you only speak English, but like others have also mentioned here,
1) Have specialized skills and/or experience that will be hard(er) to seek out from the general Swiss population
2) Work for an organization that is not too traditionally "Swiss" and the working language is in English
3) Work for an organization that serves clients/customers that are multi-national, multi-lingual

Good luck!

Adding to the 3rd Bullet point - that would be an "International" or "Corporate" HQ - as in the case in Pharmacetical Industry, look for so called "GLOBAL" or "INTERNATIONAL" or this new one "WorldWide" in the job titles. All english speaking. Its how I survive here job wise, not speaking relevant language for the area. I speak one kinda but I don't live in that area to the south. Minchia!

Re: Has anyone been able to find work if they only speak English?

Hey,

Would it also apply to canton of Ticino? Lugano isn't as big as those well known cities up north. Looking for an English speaking company manufacturing electronics (fibre-optics). I have 4 years experience as test & product engineer and a degree.

Many thanks,
Mike

Re: Has anyone been able to find work if they only speak English?

Hi everyone.

I am looking to move to the Valais area, and unfortunately donít speak French, at the moment I will be learning.

Does anyone have any experience with finding an English speaking job in Switzerland and can offer any help, or even better know of any roles available?

Thank you

Tara
