Filling in a tax form

I have received my annual form to fill in for the 'impot à la source'. My husband was an international civil servant working for CERN but has taken early retirement. I'm not sure what to fill in. Is his pension considered as an income? Do I still fill in that he is an international civil servant because CERN are paying his pension or I say that he is receiving an income but not international civil servant? There doesn't seem to be any information on the official sites about someone that takes his retirement early? Anyone else been through this? My husband worked for 30 years at CERN.

Yes, pension is considered income and there should be a place on the form for it to go in that's labelled pension. I don't think you'd put down he's a civil servant if he's now retired.

You're in France. Is this a French tax form? Have you completed one before?

Wherever you live a pension is income and so taxed. Sadly in Switzerland you can no longer set fares getting to work and back, clothing, tools etc. against income...

Re: Filling in a tax form

It's for my Swiss taxes. Before I would have clicked the barème B and I read somewhere that as my husband took early retirement I could still claim as if he is still an international civil servant but I can't find the article any more. He retied at 56 for health problems.

Sounds to me like it would be well worth your while to speak to a professional for this one - they often save you more than they charge, and they keep the tax office off your back

Re: Filling in a tax form

Also recommend seeing a professional in Geneva (or Vaud) taxes - different rules apply. Tax-free status does change when one leaves an international orginisation, for whatever reason.

Perhaps the HR people at CERN can recommend somebody local.

It is a Geneva tax form. Quite simple it is.

Check with the CERN human resources which box you have to tick.

Why not see if you can make an appointment with the Geneva canton tax office to see if they can go through the form with you? Once you've got it sorted this time it should be easy enough to do the years after unless your circumstances change a lot.
