Redundancy package and RAV

It's likely that a 're-structure' will affect my position. I will be provided with a package that includes my notice period and a cash payout, based on my level (Paid as a number of weeks), plus some other bits and bobs.
My question is: will the RAV insist that they will support me only after the usage of the cash payout, or can I keep that and then get support after my 3 months garden leave?

Re: Redundancy package and RAV

The latter I believe.
RAV is an insurance claim, not a means tested benefit.

Restructured as in offshored ? Just out of interest.

They may delay the payment as they could see the payout as future salary. If it was paid as a bonus then that would be less complicated.

Based on your wage you may have to wait up to 20 days before you become eligible for RAV payment but your cash payout will not affect or delay your entitlement. Just remember, the tax man will be waiting for his share too !!

Nope. McKinnsey came in and decided we had too many people using the coffee machines and toilets!

Yep, I was expecting that, which is no problem, but I really want to hold onto my cash payout!

Safest way to protect yourself.
Register with RAV as soon as you are "offered" the package.
Start writing job applications and keep copies.

Re: Redundancy package and RAV

RAV will only be concerned that you take sufficient steps to start looking for work now, or at least as soon as the three months period starts. They have no interest in your finances, so any payments within this periodare irrelevant to them - only if you receive payments while registered with RAV would you need to declare it.

Register immediately and check with your local Arbeitslosenkasse; you'll have access to assistance as long as you were employed in Switzerland for a minimum of 12 months. You can get pretty detailed information on your local Arbeitslosenkasse website on how much you're eligible for.

Out of curiosity what's the payout? Never heard in CH a company doing that, it's more frequent in the Uk with a week paid for each year in the company. Did your company do sth similar?

Not in Switzerland?

I know Swiss people who were fired after 30 years and just got 3 months salary.

I was with the same Swiss company and got made redundant. Luckily they had just bought a subsidiary of a major company.
Buried in the small print was that in certain circumstances they had to agree any redundancy deal with the union.
I was a happy boy!

The rule in 2015 was that only if your payout was more than 110-130K then whatever is above will be divided into equivalent monthly salary and you will have to wait for those months before receiving RAV benefits. You will have to check with RAV for the current threshold.

No, the payment is based on seniority. Years with the company irrelevant. It was something like 18 weeks, 28 weeks, 40 weeks etc etc Not sure about the notice period, but I guess some of it would be handover and the majority would be garden leave. It's not a CH company, but a global company.

Re: Redundancy package and RAV

So a bit of an update: happy days, I have been given a new role in the company, one I actually wanted! One thing about the RAV, is that it gave me the reassurance not to feel too down, so I concentrated on networking, updating my CV and Linkdin applying for new roles and fighting for the job I now have.

No you don't. I have written this a dozen times on here: You only need to register with them about a month before you get unemployed. You need to track your applications from day one after you got your notice, but there really is not point going to the RAV for months during your notice period - you are wasting time you should use on finding a job instead.
