How does freelancing work

Hello everyone, I'm a French guy living in Zürich with his Swiss girlfriend since the 1st of January.

I have quite a problem and nobody can give me a proper and definitive answer.

I am currently employed as a part-time worker in a Creative agency with a 60% contract. I also have a B permit.

I got a 60% contract so I could do some freelance work on the side, doing things closer to what I really like to do (character design for instance).

The thing is, in France, even if you are employed, you still need to have a Freelance status. Meaning you pay taxes on the freelance work you do. We have different kind of status, so it's actually kind of to each their own.

But I've heard that in Switzerland, as lond as the money you get from your freelance work doesn't exceed 10.000 Chf per year, you don't have to declare anything nor have a new status. I've already done a small freelance job for a French agency and they're waiting for the invoice.

I would just like to know, first, if I can get some freelance job without having a dedicated status. Second, if I work for a French agency (or from another country), and even though I'm French, I'm still getting paid as a Swiss worker (as I have a B permit and I then pay automatically my taxes every month). Thrid, if I don't need a special status, can I just give an invoice to the agency, like this.

I hope my questions are quite clear and that someone can help me figuring this thing out.

Have a good day

In CH being freelance means working as an employee on an occasional basis.

You might be allowed to be part time self employed, if the AVS believes your taking risk & not not just a casual employee. You need to pay AVS for earnings above about 3k, minimum amount being 475chf.
