Hi,

My partner and I will be relocating to Basel in June as I have a new job. He will be looking for work when we arrive and I wondered if anyone knows what the market is like in the security sector?

My partner is currently a Security Systems Engineer and works with CCTV & Access Control. He does not speak German at the moment but we will hopefully learn.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I really hope he can find something!

He might have to re-do some kind of CFC certification, tbh.

Thanks for your replies! This is helpful. He is working with a spouse support company but we did worry about the lack of German. I was hoping he would find a company that works on behalf of big firms so perhaps it would be less important.

Do you think they would expect fluent German or just an understanding of the basics?

A certain piece of fluency would be expected, he is going to have to interact with a lot of customers. And you are in Switzerland so, especially in the boonies, you will hear a lot of: "You are in Switzerland, speak .....(insert one of the swiss languages)"

What makes you think that because the company is big, or well known, they feel German is less important ?

For a security role, i imagine it must be important to communicate with a lot of other people in the common language, which is German in this case.
