Internship for MBA Students/ Graduates

Are there any Internship programs specifically for MBA graduates or part time Students?
I am looking specifically in the region of Zurich or Zug. (Workpermit C- so not an issue, German is 'basic' B2)
Thanks for any pointers in advance.

Re: Internship for MBA Students/ Graduates

I've gone through some of the jobs posted under Internships at UBS, Credit suisse, it is not very clear if it is for 24-25 years odds or also for Professionals with some experience and who are willing to start (afresh) with MBAs in new horizons.
Thanx in advance.

Re: Internship for MBA Students/ Graduates

Depends on the MBA (too many shady ones out there that aren't really MBAs), the industry, the company, your previous experience.

Asking "are there internship for MBAs" isn't exactly a specific question.

If you come from the US, you'll find fairly quickly that no one here cares all that much about MBAs/so-called MBAs, especially because most people here study to graduate level anyway. If CS & Co. are looking for "Master graduates", they mean MS/MA fresh from university, not MBAs with experience. It is unclear to me whether you have a decent amount of professional experience at all etc., see above.

Re: Internship for MBA Students/ Graduates

Thanks. I am not talking about shady MBAs.

I have 10 years of experience in different areas of software Development , and now looking for opportunity that that would allow me to hone my newly learnt skills.

Whilst my program, I’m looking for a part time project experience, mainly cross functional,Marketing, Finance, Strategy, Digital transformation. I know, networking is the key! But here, I am looking to find out more, if there are open programs/ internships for people with experience.

Given the fact that there are so many apprentice programs for graduates(Ok, it’s state driven), there should be some published or ‘hidden’ Programs also for ‘fresh’ MBAs.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Internship for MBA Students/ Graduates

So you're not actually looking for an internship (full-time for 8-12 weeks depending on the degree), but a part-time job?

There "shouldn't" be anything for MBAs because again, this degree is neither necessary nor really all that popular (well, the pseudo-MBAs are becoming more popular but are of highly limited value), whereas apprenticeships are a fundamental pillar of the Swiss education system.

There is the odd rotation program and the odd internship, but it's rare to find something the way you probably expect. It's even rarer to find opportunities for those aiming to switch careers or at least diverge significantly from what they used to do, which I understand is what you want. I have never heard of any program that is precisely geared towards what you seem to be looking for (I worked in the space for a few years)...

Although I agree with you that the OP is lost, you have made a wrong generalization, probably based on your own industry. First of all, "no one cares" is not true, just ask BCG, Mckinsey, private equity firms, etc., among many others top employers in Zürich and Geneva. Second, saying "most people here study to graduate level anyway" shows your ignorance on what a top MBA really is, compared to an "academic" masters degree.

Your best bet is to first reach out your MBA career development office and ask for guidance.

I very much know what "top MBA" is, thank you. And I also know that the majority of MBAs are either not really MBAs and/or worth very little and that there are only a dozen or so top-tier part-time MBAs out there - of course OP may go to one of these, she didn't say.

True, consulting may care to a degree. But consulting makes up a tiny proportion of jobs in Switzerland and I'd be surprised if you found Switzerland-specific rotation program geared at only MBAs at the McKs and BCGs of the world. Apparently, even if it existed, OP has not graduated yet from what I understand and is effectively looking for a part-time job to transition into whatever she wants to do later.

Outside of consulting, local industry couldn't care less about MBAs and even Swiss MNCs only care to an extent and only for a really quite small number of jobs, and even fewer of those are on an appropriate level and accessible to those re-entering the workforce, aiming for a different type of career.

This degree simply has nowhere near the standing it has in especially the US. That coupled with a limited interest in hiring career switchers makes it next to impossible for OP to find what she is looking for.

That's correct.

Infact this is not 100% true. There are 'plenty jobs' (as per switzerland standards) on the portals that care for MBAs with several years of experience.

This forum has always surprised me with information hence looking out for any relevant information that some members might have or contribute.

I fully get what this part time job will give you. I see less what it will give to an employer. Very honestly: I had an intern before doing his MBA. His focus is obviously his course (which is not exactly cheap). The job will come second... if not third after all those extra activities the school offers. In the end do have a guy who I know is really bright, but does half arsed jobs as he is already thinking of his next class and homework.

I surely hire interns again, but not part timers next to their course unless I have some clear cut "basic" work to do. Cross functional projects on part time basis without full focus and comitment don't work.

But to answer your question:
- an internship is typically fulltime for a period of 3-6 months.
- you are looking for a side job. You will find some offers at students.ch, but I would not expect any company to have ready made offers for your specific situaiont. That's a bit too much entitlement... even for a top tier MBA ;-)

Thanks for your insights on this.
However I do see the benefits that it can bring to Employer, inspite of the cons that you mentioned. So here is my 'Why you should hire me?'
- A person who is switching jobs and career is highly motivated in his or her new role.
- A Person who is willing to invest and learn always brings freshness and different perspective to the table
- A Student is always cheaper and is not looking for 'Job titles'
