The "iritating tools" did answer his question then he asked another one & they have not made any comments about having your cake, covering it in chocolate & coconut & licking it off in public whilst driving your porsche & waving your bum bag filled with cash. You work in Switzerland & live in another country. Be glad you're being paid Swiss salaries (that most people will never see in their lifetimes), with or without deductions for other peoples kids & appreciate the experience. Then when you've got a few contacts, you can move here & be a bloody expat like the rest of us or join the dole queue (as in they have a queue but it's a short one, after which you are considered a charity case), kind of like going to Ikea for breakfast when they have run out of donuts.

Oh you'r awful ... but I like yer

I s Eco back then ?

You do not need a GmbH or AG, there are legal possibilities to work as a sole trader/Einzelfirma and that is well accepted in Switzerland.
Yes of course you can still have your Einzelfirma, if your client(s) accept it then it is no problem. Regarding social security (AHV) you have to prove that you are not dependent on a single client (most IT contractors are dependent on a single client in reality) but have income from several clients and that you have also invested assets in your company (office, computers, marketing), otherwise the AHV takes you as "Schein-Selbständig" (false self-employed). As an Einzelfirma you are not obligated to invest in a pension fund (2nd pillar). But even with this confirmation it is rather unlikely that you will get any contract with a big company (bank, insurance, pharma,...) because they do not want to deal with single contractors but instead have their "preferred suppliers", i.e. recruitment agencies which will usally take 15 - % of the daily rate charged to the client.

No. How can I ask the payroll company to explain it to me when I do not have the source knowedge to catch them out if they are scamming me.

Do you have any source information where I can check my figures ? Maybe sombody has a pay slip? Or a Web site explaining it all. I have tried but I can't find anything which I can show the payroll company to challenge them with.
Given it is Friday and I haven't seen a Friday thread...

So is the agency scamming you?

Re: job offer of 800 chf a day? tax is too high?

The agency isn't scamming you. I thought so too when i first arrived here and have had Four IT contracts all paid in this way with similar figures to the ones you posted.

You will get major discounts if you are married and have kids but other than that it's about right.

As an example....
You're paid £16,000 top rate (£800 a day Gross) this is what you would pay in to your LTD Co or Umbrella Company in the UK in a similar scenario....the £800 is not YOUR gross rate but the companies...after they've paid insurance, pension, unemployment, corporation tax you would be left with a sum resembling 12-13K in the UK...you take this as a salary or dividened mix and pay tax and contributions on YOUR gross salary of 12-13k...

It works exactly the same here in Swizzles, except the Agency only acts as an umbrella company, your Top Rate pays ALL deductions, both Employer and Employee. I had an 800 dat rate when I first started here and it equated to about 680CHF a day as MY gross rate.

It's just the way they do things here, it's not much different than back home just that you have to go through an umbrella company to be taxed at source.

Your quoted take home is exactly where it should be give or take depending on your family status, kids and home Canton.

Just like the UK though and your LTD Co setup your salary is more than 120,000 a year so you will have to complete a mandatory tax return. Not a bad thing as I usually get around 4-5k returned each year for various deductions.

Still better than the UK.

How can the OP not be scammed? Poor OP is a contractor but paying for employer and employee... (before anyone jumps on me, I am being facetious)

10 chuffs says the OP will probably argue with adisteve and there won't be an iota of thanks...

Re: job offer of 800 chf a day? tax is too high?

Hi,
First post here, so have been reading this thread.

I've just been offered a role at BIS in Basel, with a top rate of 800CHF and a complicated breakdown of the figure I would get. My question is that I have been pushed to AccessFinancial who are charging 5% for their services.
Can anyone recommend any other payroll companies who offer a good service and maybe less of a fee?

Any other advice that anyone can give about Basel and Switz in general would be much appreciated. It would be my first time working abroad

Thanks in advance!

This payroll service charges CHF 4 per hour, or CHF 32 for an eight-hour day. It would appear to be CHF 8 per day less expensive than the CHF 40 (CHF 800 x 5%) that the recommended payroll service charges:

Disclaimer: I have no experience with this payroll service. It has been mentioned a few times on EF.
