Hoping to move to Switzerland

Hi everyone. I would like to seek advice on my situation as I'd like to move to Switzerland in the next year or two. A little bit about myself.

I am a Swiss national as my father is Swiss and my mom's from Hong Kong.

I graduated with a BA in Management Studies from the U.K. and my secondary school certificates are all GCE A-Levels and GCSEs.

I have lived in Hong Kong all my life but the situation here has changed so much since the handover i'm really contemplating a move to Switzerland.

I'm 36 now and I've been working as an English language teacher for the past 15 years and that's most only work experience. I have a teaching license from the University of Hong Kong (which i suspect will be not that useful in Switzerland).

My German is at C1 and i can understand Swiss-German well as my father speaks to me in that. Furthermore, I can speak fluent Chinese and conversational Japanese.

My question is whether I'd be able to find work in Switzerland with my skills and if so, what fields should I be looking at. I know teaching is the obvious one, but what would the general job market think of my CV?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

Working with technical documentation might be another possible market for you. We have a native German-English speaker doing technical translations for us in the company I work in. Especially look into the medical market - technical documentation is an important part of certification and pays well there

Tourism would be a good bet, lots of Chinese tourists these days for which your language skills would be an advantage.

Re: Hoping to move to Switzerland

If you want to work as a teacher in public school here you'd need to get any qualifications recognised first.

"Would you like to work for an upper-secondary specialised school in Switzerland as a teacher, special needs education teacher (curative pedagogy), speech therapist, psychomotor therapist?

Contact:

Swiss Conference of Cantonal Directors of Education (EDK)
General Secretariat, House of the Cantons
Speichergasse 6, Postfach 660
CH-3000 Bern 7
T +41 31 309 51 31

www.edk.ch"

For international schools that might not be needed, but you'd have to check with the individual school to find out.

Translation work and the tourism sector would be good places to start looking. Have a look at these websites to see if there's anything that would suit:

www.jobs.ch
www.jobup.ch
www.monster.ch
www.monster.co.uk (see they do advertise jobs in Switzerland too)

Agree on translation or tourism or possibly specific parts of the consumer goods industry

Re: Hoping to move to Switzerland

Forgot teaching.

They are desperate for Chinese speakers in Switzerland. You could easily get a job in a commercial role in a big (or even medium sized) company.

Re: Hoping to move to Switzerland

Another suggestion: check with tour companies in Hong Kong/China to see if they have any vacancies. Sometimes tour guides travel to destinations with their groups or it could be that a company might want to hire you to work in Switzerland for them.

As a Swiss, with Swiss German, English, Chinese, etc., you are in a great position.
