Just to confirm, on the back it says:
Selbst Erwerbstätigkeit ist bewilligungspflichtig

That means open right?
No, it means that you need permission to be self employed.

Re: Need Help! Terminated after moving to CH

The original approval letter had the code 1402, which from my browsing of the forums suggests an open permit. Please correct me if I'm wrong, you guys are the experts here

But the employer would be the one who chooses to tie someone to them or not, no? Why would any employer bringing in someone from overseas choose to give them an open permit unless they were planning on letting them go
No. As I said and as roegner confirmed, the employer has no influence on the type of permit you receive. He applies for a permit, period, whether that is an L or B, tied or not tied, is not his decision, but solely that of the canton/state.

And even if the employer had a say, I highly doubt yours would give a toss about your situation and whether you have an open permit or not.

There is no mention of my company name on the permit (the plastic card with my picture on it).

Then it's untied and if you find a new employer, that one doesn't need to apply for a permit for you.

That is under the assumption that the permit won't be cancelled given the situation, see further comments on this earlier in the thread.

Good, then start applying for jobs if you want to stay here. The process can be quite lengthy (and you probably have a permit for one year?)

Then it's untied.
Wonderful, I needed some good news in this clusterF. It's valid for 12 months, so now need to try to find a job, pronto.

I really appreciate and thank all of you for the help. A couple of follow up questions :

1. How and when do I bring up this 3-week stint with a new employer during interviews? I feel like I should take it off my resume, update my address to Switzerland + put permit status, at a minimum. Then say something along the lines of "the role is different than we discussed in interviews". I don't want to come across as negative or as a "poor performer" who couldn't hold a job for a month :-/

2. If/when I get a new employer, what happens at the end of the year when my permit has to be renewed? Is there some arduous process that the new employer and/or me will have to go through?

How do you want to explain getting a permit? You had to have had a job to get one so better mention it
