Hi, guys, I'm a girl , multilingual designer with a lots of spirit.

I'm newbie here, have read a lot but just registered. like you dunno a lot about me but I've got a facebook and some stuff like behance for ya all to let us know each other better.

I've got Bachelor of Arts + 7 years of Art School Diploma + experience + my great Wacom Intuos Large . I'm interested into working into design field which is Photoshop, Illustrator, hand drawing, UX , UI design.

Reading the forum I realised that my 7 languages could be useful in some other part time jobs in first monthes.

The thing is I've got a passport of Romania/Bulgaria which has no permit to work in Switzerland from May 2017 ( ) .

1) Do you have the stories of designers that working in Switzerland?

2) If I'd be working in a hotel, or as an administrator using my language skills - are they alloud to give me a working permit?

3) Should I register in an apartments that I'm renting? Or it's not neccessary?


I mean, in except of sending CV via indeed , what are my steps to get paid as a designer, or someone speaking multiply languages , with my RO passport?

EU-2 nationals are subject to quota limits for Swiss permits.

"The Federal Council decided to invoke the safeguard clause provided for in the Agreement between Switzerland and the EU on the free movement of persons, applying it to the EU-2 Member States. From 1 June 2017, category B EU/EFTA residence permits granted to citizens from Bulgaria and Romania are subject to quotas. There are 996 residence permits B EU/EFTA available. This measure is in force for a year.

This measure applies to citizens from EU-2 countries who wish to take up an employment in Switzerland with a work contract whose duration is longer than one year or unlimited. The same applies to self-employed persons who wish to settle in Switzerland."

So employers may be reluctant to apply for one for you. You can't apply for one yourself. If the quota has been reached you simply can't get one until 1st June 2018.

As an EU-2 national you can be here for up to 3 months as a tourist/job seeker without having to register as being a resident.

Speaking many languages is good, but in Switzerland, most people speak 2- 4 languages. So you wouldn't stick out that much, maybe if your German, French and Italian are perfect in talking and writing. That would be a big asset.

You put Bern as location. Find out about design companies in the Bern region and call them to make an appointment to find out if they could use your skills. Maybe they want you as a freelancer and you can work from wherever is home. Good luck.

For design jobs I would go anywhere but Switzerland, of course it depends on what direction your designs are. But as a rule the CHians value processes more than design, meaning, studios are inclined to buy major design elements from low-wage countries and incorporate those designs into templates. However if you can take your design and get it printready on a stellar level you may be able to impress somebody, but that would mean you know the in´s and out´s of the chosen print process like the back of your hand.

Yes, the way of making the meeting by calling used to work when I was studying and searching for the job I didn't know that it works in Switzerland, was afraid that they don't like when people are "too pushy".

Medea Fleecestealer, so like only 996 people A YEAR from both Bulgaria and Romania could obtain a permit? And most of them would be banking and IT... Right? What about this strange people speaking hindi or something , working in a kitchen in some restaurants??

People from non-EU countries have their own quota limits: 4,500 L (short stay) permits and 3,000 B's (residence). This is for the whole of Switzerland, but the Federal government keeps some back in reserve. Many cantons have already run out of their allocations this year again - which has been the case for the last couple of years - and have had to ask for more.

Non-EUs who are married to Swiss/EU nationals or some other nationality who already has a Swiss permit would have their permits under family reunification rules and don't come under the quotas. However integration requirements for family reunification are also likely to be tightened up some time in the future.

And, like any other country in the world, you'll always have people working illegally. Not recommended obviously, since if/when found out it'll mean deportation and not being allowed into the whole of the Schengen Area - not just Switzerland - for several years at least and makes it much more difficult to get a Schengen visa in the future.

Beautiful Coffee - do you have a website with samples of your work? That would also help to get first contacts. You could send an e-mail first and ask for an appointment. Sometimes, that helps to get a foot into the door. One of my friends who is a trained graphic designer was in a similar situation as you.

She walked to every graphic designer in the city with a small handmade broom with a card who said "neue Besen kehren gut" "(New brooms work well" ) Part of a German saying, the second part she omitted says "but the old ones know the creases!" - delivered it to the front desk and actually got a job!

It wasn't the most exciting one, but it was a first step in her career. You seem to be very creative and might have a great idea of your own :-) Ok., she's German and did not have the same restrictions as you have with your nationality. But it is always good to make yourself known.
