Re: Internship Requirements

1. I guess the key requirement will be an EU passport. Without it will it be extremely difficult to impossible to get an offer. You can read any of the 1000 threads on the topic on this forum about it. Sorry if that bursts your bubble.

2. Hard to believe, but the salary might actually depend on the job you want to intern in...

Well, if you are signed up to a Swiss school and the internship is part of the program do I assume the work permit is covered. But if I were you would I not assume, but ask the school about it...

I don't know how well the internships in hospitality pay, but I'd assume anywhere between 2-3.000 CHF a month. That might sound like a lot but it just about covers your costs. If its in some mountain resort might it be less money, but include a room and food. I don't think your worry is how much you might make but to find that employer willing to hire you in the first place, especially if you don't happen to be fluent in German or French...

Re: Internship Requirements

Well, if you're persuing a Masters at a Swiss university here you'll need to show you can support yourself financally anyway to get a student's permit. The internship salary won't come into those calculations.

Re: Internship Requirements

1) Internships pay 1500-2500/month in most industries (not all, this is an average, some may pay less, some more), sometimes they throw in a room in shared accommodation/student housing and pay for it. Depends on the company. No official, universal minimum salary. It will be enough to just about get by, the regular student life it will be. An internship is NOT a real job - the purpose is educational.

2) Looks like you're a non-EU citizen, based on your location. Your student permit will NOT allow you to work full-time as an intern, so your potential employer needs to apply for a work permit for you. Usually, that is not a particularly big deal provided you study at a Swiss university, are located in Switzerland and have a valid student permit. The application for a work permit, however, does take 4-6 weeks (again provided you are already here and have a student permit). Plan accordingly and apply early.

3) To whatever company wants to hire you, you need to provide a letter that confirms that the internship is a compulsory part of your degree and without one, you cannot graduate. Without this letter, you won't get the permission to work.

Re: Internship Requirements

I have applied for a student visa which includes 12months (5months in college campus and also an internship). My main aim is jst to get an internship for 6months for experience not to earn anythin. With which I can pay my accomodation and meals at the least .

Re: Internship Requirements

You'd better check with your university on this. Bachelor students usually have to live in Switzerland for at least 6 months before they can work and Masters students can only get a work permit via their university department during the first 6 months.

This is ETHZ's info:

https://www.ethz.ch/en/studies/inter...mployment.html

Although EPFL does state that non-EU nationals can work earlier if it's related to their field of study.
