Are you in France or Egypt? Sorry to bring this up, but Switzerland is one of the tightest countries in Europe when it comes to immigration, so it matters a lot if you are in France, have a resident permit there.... you need to make this clear in your application.

Very honestly: Swiss employers have an issue with non-EU employees. It's a long story, but simply put: The Swiss don't like to have too much immigration. Since they joint the Schengen treaty can they not limit the EU immigration anymore... so they put limits on non-EUs instead. I can imagine that this will put you at the bottom of the pile wherever you apply in Switzerland, especially if you apply blindly (without knowing people there or even knowing if they have an opening).

I'd only apply to open positions. Make a list of banks you are interested in and study their websites - all larger ones have internship programs to apply to.

Re: How can i find a financial internship in Geneva ?

It's somewhat the same procedure as looking for a job:

1, Try using your own network, (in your case) maybe ask your lecturers if they have any contacts, or possibly friends that did internships before.

2. Use Linkedin, make sure your profile is updated and include a good professional looking picture.

2.1 Now look for people that are already in the position you would be interested in: connect with them, and ask them politely if you can ask them some questions about their experiences. Then ask for any intern openings.

2.2 Connect with potential managers of the position your are after, and repeat 2.1.

You can already forget about applying through the highly automated Taleo-type driven recruitment portals, I've simply never found a job through them. Personally I think it is super-effective when you show genuine interest in people's jobs, and try to approach managers & decision makers directly.
Good luck.

Yes. Non-EU is non-EU. In reality, it is slightly easier than for permanent jobs, but many companies will still not consider you. The bureaucratic hurdles for non-EUs are fairly high, so unless you have any particular skills that make you extremely unique, most employers won't bother going through the process.

When you say you have a "permit in Europe", what's that mean exactly? What kind of permit?

And yet Switzerland has the highest proportion of 'foreigners' in all of Europe except Luxembourg (where the proportion is higher for different reasons)...

Um, no? Exact same socio-economic reasons... small country with jobs predominantly in the financials services sector on offer mostly filled by people from three surrounding countries (yes, I am discounting the Austrians here as the fourth most important neighbour country of CH...). Economy based on ripping other countries off through loopholes in tax and banking laws. Only minor difference is that Switzerland makes it hard to take the nationality while the EU laws makes it unnecessary to do so in Luxembourg.

But speaking of it: Dear OP, Luxembourg is 2 hours from Paris by TGV and if you have an EU blue card for your studies already should an internship there (or in Brussels) be much easier to find...

Also remember that Switzerland is not part of the EU, though it has many agreements with the EU such as Free Movement for EU nationals. It might be easier to find an internship in another EU country rather than here.

I was going to suggest exactly that! Given that you already have some sort of EU permit, I'd focus on Lux. Maybe I am making assumptions, but also, keep in mind that Lux is one of the leading centers for Islamic finance in the world. Interesting stuff if you're interested in that.

I donīt know how others react but if someone tries to link on LinkedIn and then immediately asks for a job/an internship, Iīd delete that request.

Yes, if its a copy-pasted mass mailing.

Not if its a genuine message that demonstrates honest interest in my employer and ideally my field of work. If I then can see that the person sending me the message has put some time and effort into informing himself will he surely get a nice message back.
