Re: Salary - Living Cost Help

Dear Friends ,

Now as the relocation agency is helping us to understand Tax- we are getting to know more about tax.

My only query right now is on an average how much is monthly expense ?

Accordingly we can take a house on rent.

Excluding Rent - for a family of 3 - Is it 5K ? or more ? (Grocery,Transport ,Cable + Internet + Mobile ,Electricity , After school activities , Eating out at a reasonable place weekly once )

Basically to lead a comfortable life , not an ultra luxurious life .

Sorry but these basic crappy questions show beyond any doubt that you are lazy and have done zero research since you made this topic 2 months ago. Shame on you.

More.

3k groceries, 1k transport, 500 cable/internet/phone, 1k eating out, 1k after school activities, at least in my experience.

However, that's in Ticino, Vaud for sure is more expensive.

Re: Salary - Living Cost Help

In Geneva UBS estimated 3,500 CHF excluding housing for a family of 3 in 2015. But again - that is an average and it is an average for Geneva. So 5k looks to be more than average in Nyon.

1K transport is a bit high, considering a GA each will only be 780 per month!

1k is for taxis .. Some people don't do public transport you know..

I can understand that, apparantly there's even a time limit when taking a crap in a train station toilet, go over the limit and an old lady kicks open the door and puts your crap in a plastic bag and you need to take it home and you get fined.

(Or something like that, i didn't actually read the whole story)

My understanding was that it was a paid service and she was there to help "work out" any problems he was experiencing. Sort of a customer enrichment program if you're too posh to push. Again, I didn't read far into the thread.

Wow, really nice and useful breakdown, although I believe statistics were modified along the way. How it is possible when personal expenses are exact amount for man and woman?

Re: Salary - Living Cost Help

With 185.000 you will do well, period.

We lived on half that value in Zurich, and did well (now we earn somewhat more, but still far from 185k). Check www.leshop.ch, put together a basket of products and see how much that costs. Living you know, health insurance another 1k/month.

I read something about you coming from India. I come from Brasil. What our countries share is "cheap labour", like cleaning ladies, babysitters. Luckily these people receive quite a good salary here - no, not 185k!! - rather maybe 50k, and they live from that. But you may not be able to pay a FT cleaning lady here.

What I ask myself: how is company offering so much to someone that is apparently unable to find this simple information? Or are you good at outsourcing work?

Thank you for your reply and time.

I think you haven't read the post (I don't blame you as its really a long one now with so many replies .I thank each and everyone who has contributed )

Initial question we have posted when we got the offer (My husband had a offer). Now it has been two months and we know it very well that its a good one for a good life style . We dont doubt on that.

My last query was - is 5K enough ? so accordingly we need to take a call for house rent considering our saving per month.

I am grateful to all the people who has replied to my queries. Really really helpful.

on a funny note - I will link you with the company if you doubt the caliberity , so that you can check how such big MNC has kept a fool since last 13 years !!

What I forgot to write before: once you are here you will learn very fast about the possibilities and how they match your preferences - for example more travel time but a cheaper rent, etc. So you will probably not accomplish full savings in the first months, but that picture will change over time.

I didnt get the last line of your message. caliberity? and who is a fool?

Thank you once again !

We figured that out by now...
- the company offered the money to your husband, not you. He is probably able to find the information... but gave that job to you.
- you on the other hand seem to struggle with doing basic research or even just using the search function of this web forum and believe that the world should present you any answer with zero effort... I am looking forward to a million threads on how Switzerland is different from Dubai in the future.

Question : Where is this 5k figure coming from anyway?
185k gives you more than 5k a month to play with.. what 15k/month maybe? Give or take a couple.

You could rent a stand alone house with a swimming pool in a village above Nyon for around 5-6k and thus still have 10k left each month to buy cheese and stuff.

Been asking myself that same question.

Even after taxes, health insurance for the family, and social insurance deductions, this leaves at least 9k a month net, likely more. And quite frankly, anyone who can't figure out themselves whether this is "enough" to live on or not can't be helped. Just googling "average salary Switzerland" gives an idea of what amount of money normal people have around here, making the question borderline insulting... Even for EF standards.
