Software Engg Job with 2 yrs experience for trailing spouse

So my boyfriend and I are planning to get married in a year and I'll be moving from India to Zurich. I was wondering about the job opportunities I'd get since I do not know German. I have 2 yrs of work experience at an MNC as a software developer and I am currently doing my masters in natural language processing.

Will getting a job even after I get my VISA be difficult?
What about job offers in Germany and other neighbouring countries?

Should I start learning German? Will I reach a level good enough for consideration?

Re: Software Engg Job with 2 yrs experience for trailing spouse

Thanks for the suggestion. I just don't want to come there and hve nothing to do after working so hard! What about opportunities elsewhere? Start-ups? Is there something I can do from now on to make me more employable?

As has been said, start to learn German?

There is a ton of information already on the forum for the questions that you are asking. Use the search function and dedicate some time over the next weeks to reading it.

You would need a permit to work in the neighboring countries.

Your dependent permit type depends a lot on your boyfriend's permit. If your boyfriend is Swiss or holding a C/B permit then you will get a B permit which will allow you to work and that makes life easy for employer. Otherwise on dependent L permit its hard to find employer who is willing to take the pain for work authorization. In IT sector its possible to find job without learning German but if you know a bit of it then it will definitely help you at least in daily life.

If you are motivated to do PHD then you may also consider applying for PHD in Switzerland or Europe.

Re: Software Engg Job with 2 yrs experience for trailing spouse

"Software Developer" is a pretty generic thing.

What exactly did you do?

Can you take a look at www.jobs.ch and see if you find similar jobs?

Once you have a B permit, you can start applying.

Also, there are various software and startup-related meetups in and around Zurich. https://www.meetup.com

You can go there and see what people do, chat a bit. The audience is often very international. Some are hiring, some may even pay some money ;-)
