Registration at the local RAV

Hi All,

I've lived in Switzerland since September 2016 and have been in continuous employment until my job ends on March 24th 2018.

I've contacted my local RAV office who advised I need to have a translator present as they don't speak Fluent English. Is there anything I can do to have this issue resolved, such as having a free translator or going to another Rav office (they told me this isn't possible over the phone when I spoke with someone who spoke with basic English)

Best Regards

Re: Registration at the local RAV

See if you can get someone from EF to help you out or contact Rent-a-Rentner or ask a neighbour if they can help you out.

I doubt whether anyone will do it for free, unless it's a friend or family member.

hey- sympathies for your current position, but don't be disheartened. This time can be a time of immense growth. Regarding a translator, I would suggest you ask your counselor once again if there is an English speaking one you can transfer to. One of my friends was in a current position, and he ultimately was able to change his counselor.

Re: Registration at the local RAV

Hi and thanks for the advice, I've sent a message to the RAV to ask this so thanks again everyone. I've had a hopeful interview and another one next week so fingers crossed this is only short term for me

Re: Registration at the local RAV

I'm not sure if this belongs here, or in another thread.

After working for 20 years +, I became a stay at home dad while my Swiss wife went back to work full time. My profession is as a sport therapist, but my Canadian qualifications are not recognized here. About 18 months ago, I started an 'einzelfirma' and went back to work. Most of it was contract work and involved a lot of travel. It was trying, but a nice source of supplemental income.

My wife and I are now divorcing. We have a teenage daughter. My einzelfirma is still growing, and at the moment will not sustain a household for me...and may never. Will the RAV be a place for me to start, or is there a better place to begin?

Thank you.

You don't qualify for RAV being self employed.

RAV has 16 informative FAQs in English on its website. Unfortunately, FAQ "1. Am I insured for unemployment?" says:

"The self-employed are not insured."

Thank you for the replies and information. It is as expected.

I will see if there is advice on resources to seek out for assistance on other threads if at all.

Again, I very much appreciate the replies.

I am told that I am not entitled to any. This seems odd.

Regardless, I’m more comfortable working so looking for assistance navigating the job market is the best way to go. I’m employable back home but that would mean leaving my daughter.

Thank you for the reply 🙏

Why odd?

Generally, alimony is only for parents with a child under age 10 or so, after that the parents are expected to work.
