Extension of Probation Period

I知 2 months into a new job and I知 thinking about requesting an extension of my Probation period. I知 finding it difficult to adjust to a new culture in the new place and, although the work itself is interesting, I知 not sure that this is something I will enjoy on a longer term basis.

Has anyone else asked for a Probation period extension or know of anyone who has?

I realise that my employers can say no and tell me to leave but if they are keen to keep me then I would assume they would agree to keep me and convince me to stay?

Or does anyone see this differently?

Thanks

Re: Extension of Probation Period

Why do you need that extension? After the probation period is the notice period typically only one month for the first year... that's still short enough to be able to join any other job you might find. Or does your work contract say something different (that's btw legal)?

Asking for that extension will surely raise a lot of questions...

Re: Extension of Probation Period

My notice period is more than one month for the first year. I just want to make sure I have the flexiblility and not be tied to a job that I am frustrated in and not enjoying for 3 months.

I realise that it would raise questions but I want to see what options there are if I am having some doubts

If an employee came to me with that request is it clear to me that he is unhappy and applying for new jobs. No point to keep that person around then... but 3 months notice is of course not exactly fun. I'd personally still stick to the contract. In case you resign and you have a good relationship would I expect most companies be willing to let you go early. There is no point to glue you to your chair unless you do something extremely business critical. Which is quite unlikely as you have just joined...

Re: Extension of Probation Period

You can't legally extend the probation period beyond three months, not even on the employee's request. If you're not sure you like it now, extemdomg ot tp three months may be of little use.

Alternatively you could reduce the notice period to one month for, say, the remainder of the first year if the employer agrees.

Re: Extension of Probation Period

Aside from the fact that it's not allowed to extend the probation period: why would you ask for that? You're putting yourself at an unnecessary risk of being let go within a week's notice, why would anyone do that? Just continue working and figure out if you like it; if a few months from now you decide it's not for you, quit.

Agree with Treverus, if you come with that request, they know you don't like it and will have no motivation to keep you around, i.e. see risk comment above. Though again, doesn't really matter anyway as it's not allowed.

I'm also not sure why you are somehow hoping they will try to convince you to stay if it's you who doesn't like it. If I hated my job, no amount of convincing could make me stay.

Thank your lucky stars that you have a job. Go to any RAV office and you will find them full. It is your job to adapt to the office environment and this is part of any job.

Well I wouldn't go that far. There are organizations where the fit is just not right and there's limits as to how far one has to, should or can adapt.

OP, in case you haven't already seen this thread:
https://www.englishforum.ch/employme...-period-2.html

Although it is an old thread, from post 26 onwards it is recent, and there's some discussion there which you might find relevant to your three months' notice period.
