| | Senior Director Big Pharma position - questions
Hello -
First post and it's job offer related. What type of salary can a decade plus experienced U.S. Biotech IP attorney expect in the Geneva/Vaud-ish area at a Big Pharma company?(J.D. & Ph.D, a relatively high level position at the Pharma company along with moving to CH). Salary and bonus numbers would be great. Also, what other benefits should come with this type of position? I have colleagues in DE that receive a car or car allowance. Is that something offered for Swiss positions too? Are there other benefits that I should know and/or ask about? I understand that I can negotiate for "anything" but I don't know what is negotiable with a Swiss company re I don't want to leave anything on the table, but I also don't want to price myself out of the position.
The position would be with a Swiss company on a Swiss contract for an EU citizen (dual U.S./EU citizen).
Also, I've read about a 3 month probation period. Is a Swiss company really going to move me to Switzerland and then not keep me on after 3 months?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
Yes, they may well move you here and then let you go after 3 months. Could also ask that you repay any relocation costs they've contributed to as part of the employment contract.
Before you go much further you might want to investigate the US tax side of things. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/inte...-aliens-abroad
You're still obliged to file them and could owe US tax on top of Swiss ones.

How long is a piece of string...
Can you give at least some indication as to whether you've received any initial offer so it can be roughly assessed or compared? Giving any estimate out of the blue is next to impossible.
As for benefits: less negotiation room on this one than is the case in other countries, but again, difficult to say.

Base CHF 300,000, car unusual (reserved for CEO-2 or 3) but they might offer favorable leasing terms, in any case typically public transport monthly pass in the city you work is given, other benefits may include subsidized health with the company insurer (which may not necessarily mean it's the cheapest option), Reka cheques, subsidized canteen or even full working day lunch paid for, and bonus maybe 20-30% mix of cash and stock options, maybe more given it's pharma.

I certainly wouldn't pay very much for an attorney who posts intimate details of a job offer on a public site that their future boss might be well reading...

I think... wasn't even given any financial help to go back

Better than the standard "I want to move to Swiss and find a (undisclosed) job in pharma, I have 5 years of experience and a (undisclosed) Bachelors degree, what salary can I expect" | This user would like to thank Samaire13 for this useful post: | |
