Blockchain salaries in Swiss Big3 banks

Hi everyone,

Iíve looked through the forum and havenít found any post on this particular topic (please, refer to it if I missed something). I currently work in a blockchain-related startup in Zug as a multi-profile expert. My official title is VP of Product, however it is a very vague term - basically, I do coding, UX design, market research and anything related to launching products.

Iíve recently been reached out by a Swiss Big3 banks recruiter offering a position of a blockchain advisor in Zurich. That position involves exactly the same, just called differently. Iím currently making 150k per annum (no 13 salary, no bonus). Would it be worth to consider swapping for the sake of income growth? What salary should I be in position to discuss in Big 3 banks, especially when it comes to blockchain?

BTW, when I say I do coding means I am fluent in 10 languages, M.Sc. in Computer Science and 15 years IT background.

Re: Blockchain salaries in Swiss Big3 banks

There are three big banks? What's the 3rd one?

I know exactly two banking conglomerates in ZH, UBS and CS... the rest is in a completely different league.
If your offer is for that third one and it is who I think it is should you really inform yourself about their IT. Last time I checked were they not exactly on the forefront of technology but rather trying to squeeze the last bit of cost cutting out by hiring people way below the market price and accepting to not get the top grade in return. That's not the environment that will get you the income growth you are hoping for. But maybe the blockchain stuff is paid from a marketing budget...

You understood what Trev wrote though, right? It's the English forum not the English grammar forum.

Re: Blockchain salaries in Swiss Big3 banks

Advisor role as an external for the banks or a specific role at a specific bank?

One of them is setting up a BC group at present but I don't know much more than that in terms of staffing

In any case, there's not much in the way of actual error - peculiar phrasing possibly, but entirely understandable.

Why is it that people who earn or are about to earn over 100K cannot make a simple decision such as "what salary should I ask for" or "should I change jobs"???

What use would it be to group all verbs together and sort them alphabetically?

The third one I mean is the association of cantonal banks that include ZKB etc. From my current experience the blockchain staff is paid more everywhere just because it's trendy and the market is short of experienced specialists. I'm not talking about speculative things like ICOs, the topic I'm working on know has a serious application potential in the finance sphere.
So I am just wondering if there are any financial incentives of going there instead of having a good brand name on your cv.

It is supposed to be a permanent staff position.

That's the banks for grandmas and grandpas. I tried to open a portfolio account there once trying to buy ETFs the bank itself put on the market. The teller looked at me as if I was a ghost... and got me an appointment with the branch manager. Who in turn essentially asked me why on earth I would want to buy their own financial products... what I am trying to get at - are you sure that's the right place to work for a blockchain expert? Do you think the sort of consumer bank focusing on the lower end of retail banking are the ones who will come up with great new crypto applications? I for one doubt it. But I might be totally wrong as I recall the Glarner KB of all Swiss banks to be breaking the ice in online offers for mortgages... so maybe there are some awesome initiatives out there.

Higher salary does not make one smarter or wiser.

If you like your current job, and you have the upside of being in at the beginning with all that entails if the company is successful or bought out, great and varied experience, then go for gold.

Ask for 250!

'should you' does NOT mean the same thing as 'you should'.

150K? Low paid worker. Doesn't need to be smart.

Re: Blockchain salaries in Swiss Big3 banks

Just a quick update from my side - I have negotiated my package towards 185k, hope this information will help some blockchain people to understand the boundaries.

Good luck everyone!
