Signing off RAV: any point in taking "holidays"?

It's looking very likely that I'll finally be saying goodbye to the RAV sometime in the next few weeks. Despite my initial worries, I ended up getting quite a lot of work while under their supervision, but it was always nice to have the back-up of a guaranteed income for those odd in-between days of coffee drinking, story telling and pointlessly applying for jobs in Romania.

Because I was getting so much work, I never bothered claiming most of my holidays. I've got a full four weeks waiting to be claimed before I sign off. My question is: is there any point to actually claiming them? I'm going to be working for most of the days I'd technically be on holiday, and most of the rest of the days are national holidays anyway.

So, like, is it worth the bother? Is there something I've overlooked? I'm feeling that I might be missing something vital here.

You don't need to prove you were applying for jobs during your holiday days, that's the only advantage I'm aware of. But the days you work will be reported as days worked (counts as Zwischenverdienst) so there may be even fewer potential holiday days than you think to begin with.

Why donít you call them and find out how many days of holidays you have left to take just to be on the safe side? Iím sure they have some sort of records to check on the accrued holidays? I thrill you accrue 2 days per month.

It's mentioned on the monthly statement under "Saldo kontrollfreie Bezugstage".

As Urs Max said, holidays are days you don't have to search for work. If you take two weeks holidays, that month you only have to show half the amount of applications.

DB, you're not allowed to work on your holidays
So on days you are accumulating "Zwischenverdienst" you can't possibly be on holidays.
These holidays are meant for people who are long-term unemployed, they need a break and/or leave the country for a little while. Or just need to feel uncontrolled once in a while.
Also the system is based on work laws (one gets payed on public holidays, the amount of "Stempeltage" per month are according to work-days), so one is entitled to holidays according to the law as well.
So the only gain in them is not being controlled. You can just let them go, DB. You're not losing anything.

Hope that doesn't mean your kids dad will invest his first salary in pooping unichorns and other toys EF kids seem to like this year.

This is exactly why I haven't taken most of my holiday days: because I work across several different cantons - with their different cantonal school holidays - there was no time that I could simply sit back and say "Nah, no work for the next two weeks". I had to be available at a moment's notice, RAV rules or no RAV rules!

Also, on the one occasion I did take a week off, in the middle of everybody's summer holidays, my RAV adviser insisted I apply for the same number of jobs as every other month of the year anyway. So really there was no benefit to it at all.

I reckon I'll just continue as normal until the moment I'm actually officially on contract, then just hand in my RAV resignation and - God willing - never look back.

It's a great service, and I am certainly very grateful for the safety net, but I won't miss the paperwork (or the random bizarre fines, the three-week-late payments, the sterile offices with photographs of abandoned factories, the counting everything by days, the hard sums, the...)
