| | How to get an internship?
I'm looking for an internship but keep getting rejected. I know it is straightforward for every student to get an internship, but I'm an exception, so many companies denied me what I was entitled to. Any advice on how to get one? Or should I just look directly for an graduate program? For now I stick to internships as I think I have better chances there.

And companies are entitled to refuse to give you one.

I guess you came over so very entitled they thought they couldn't teach you anything more and went looking for less entitled students who nicely asked for a chance.
The Swiss get quite blasé at people who feel entitled. Full stop.

First lesson of real life:
You're not entitled, well maybe in your dreams.
If you had same attitude when applying for a internship... well there is your answer.
Get back down on the ground, put your tail between your legs and start asking nicely and humbly.

ETHZ...I think the reactions here might not make sense to you, so I will try to break it up to lil palatable chunks. Nothing is automatic here. There is almost zero right to anything here...and it is done on purpose to filter out those who are passively waiting for hand outs. Nobody will motivate you to build yourself up, but yourself. Where is your entitlement coming from? It is obviously wrong and you might have been given some wrong or misleading ideas. Good luck with your internship search! It is getting a bit late, hope you can make it. And since we are a sweet bunch - we will be cheering for you.

I never said to the companies that they must hire me and I was entitled (though I wish I did) I always asked nicely and humbly, but that brought me nowhere. The point is that for everyone else it's almost impossible to get rejected for an internship. That's what makes me think that I'm owed one as well. I deserve the same opportunities as everyone else and not to be put at disadvantage.

Did you ask why they didn´t accept you? Did you ask what you could do to have better chances?

You and "everyone else" have exactly the same opportunities. What you need to be asking, instead of whining on a forum, is why "everyone else" succeeded while you did not. Roegner's suggestions of asking for feedback on why you weren't successful, what you could do better to be successful are worth doing.

OP seriously, you have to stop. Absolutely no one owes you aaaanything. You better learn that very, very quickly, otherwise good luck out there.

ETHZ - you have a degree (bachelors) in physics now? Only you talk about "graduate program", which kind of implies you have graduated.
Funnily enough my son got a masters in physics (with a very high grade). He spent 6 months looking for a job or an internship. All the internships which might have taken him on were for students, not graduates. After 6 months hard working and applying, he got a job offer from a great company and now he's flying high.
Nothing is automatic. It's possible that all your colleagues were phenomenally lucky and you were not. If I'm wrong and it's as easy as you say, the problem lies with you and/or your CV. Probably it's a good idea to determine which.
