Implications of Interim Job on RAV / Chomage

Hello All,

I tried to walk through some old threads. Here are further questions that I hope would find answers:

I am in RAV with the ceiling salary. I am over 40 years old and have a C permit(non EU) to be renewed in a period where I won't be in RAV anymore if I cannot find a job. There is still time but due to my age and not knowing German I decided to be open for interim jobs (fixed term contract) / contractor jobs (with daily rates).

Questions:
1- If I consider contractor jobs, what should be premium % factor that I should consider over permanent position salaries for senior corporate finance roles in industry(not banks and insurance sectors)? Some says +30% days are over if not coming from branded consultancy companies.

2-Say I am in the 6th month in RAV and 12 months to go. I have a 6 month interim job between 7th and 12th months in RAV period, Will this extend the overall period in RAV?

3- If I accept lower salary position, I know RAV pays the gap in addition to salary earned during the interim period. What happens at the end of the contract when returning to RAV, do I start receiving the same salary before I went for interim or my new salary in RAV will be recalculated?
Thanks in advance for the answers coming from experts.....

Regards,

I used to calculate it like this: 800 chf/day contract means approx. 165k permanent. You can change the numbers proportionally for your case.

Yes, RAV will pay you again your current money till the 24th month.

RAV will fill the 70/80% of the gap only. It means, the more you earn in the interim job, the less will be the real gap, and the 70/80% of this gap they will pay on top of your interim salary. But there is a cap (12.3k gross) till RAV tops it up. So you can't expect that they pay the gap between your interim salary and your previous salary. Ultimately, their aim (and theoretically yours too) is to reduce they loss is overall.

Re: Implications of Interim Job on RAV / Chomage

I'm in the situation of your point 2, am in the 1st month of a 6 month contract. In my case I decided to quit the RAV as the salary is about the same of the insured RAV amount, there would be no money coming from the ALK.
In this case, what I understood, it will count as regular working time followed by unemployment again. As it was known beforehand there will be no penaly for becoming unemployed whe the contract ends. Also, the few weeks wait before getting the first ALK money will not be applied, as this is only applied once per period (with a period being 2 years if i'm not mistaken). So after this temp job I can go back into the RAV, and will get days dependent on how much I worked in the then last two years. Funnely enough for the ALK payments the salary determined at the start of the two year period will count, so will not take into account the temp job salary.
I got into the RAV with 400 tagesgelder, march 2017. Now after 10.5 months I went out (having used roughly 220 tagesgelder) for my 6 months temp job. After this I get back into the RAV. Because I have at that time worked 13.5 months out of the last 24, I get 260 tagesgelder. If I do not find work, accepting the 6 month temp job has gotten me 6 months pay and 80 extra tagesgelder (though minus 15 as after 2 years since the first unemployment, so march 2019, a new period will start with its own 15 days waiting period)

P.s. RAV is the office that help you find a new job, ALK is the office that pays your unemployment benefit. The RAV does not pay you.
P.p.s. 3 months before your contract ends you're supposed to start looking for a job again, else the RAV will impose a penalty.

Re: Implications of Interim Job on RAV / Chomage

Thank for your replies. First two points are clear to me but third point I am bit confused. I already receive the 12.3 K * 80% . If I accept an interim position for 11K/month, the gap of 1.3K*80% will be paid by RAV. My question was after the interim, will I continue with 12.3*80% or a lower because my average of last 12 months is recalculated and obviously is lower than the time I first started in RAV period?

an other point if view, going for interim is also beneficial for RAV as it will pay less or nothing during the interim job period but if it extend the total paid days, net net it will pay more. Are we sure about this?

thanks for clarification

This is really interesting. So if your original salary was, say 13K/month avg at the start, then you receive 12.3K*80% from ALK, then as long as you accept 12.3 K interim job, there is not a disadvantageous situation for the next round with RAV
