Advice: short term IT work in CH

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of working in Switzerland for a little bit (less than six months to begin with).

I was hoping to do it as an independent contractor, but reading around it sounds like setting up as a company wouldn't be a good way to go. I was wondering what the best way to do this is, and if somebody could point me towards some good resources for finding this sort of work (specifically for Linux System Administrators) that would be great.

Looking around on the job sites I've found there don't seem to be too many positions listed as "contract", although maybe contract isn't quite what I should be looking for if that alludes to the setting up as a company arrangement.

Any help much appreciated

Re: Advice: short term IT work in CH

You can either try specialized agencies (in IT, it would be Experis Switzerland) or job boards where you mainly find english-speaking roles: in IT it would be Jobserve I think.

If you're British, please note that it may be harder to land a job in case of a no-deal Brexit, permits won't last long.

Otherwise you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Or any brexit... the "deal" is between the UK and EU.

Deal or no-deal, Brexit will mean permit quotas in Switzerland...

Re: Advice: short term IT work in CH

Here you do not need to have your own company like in the U.K. (where you have to have a limited company to contract).

Here you are 'employed' by the agency for the duration of the contract. They take care of your payroll, including standard deductions, accident insurance, pension, tax at source etc..

Part of the deductions are towards unemployment payments. If you have worked here for 12 months in the last 24, you are entitled to unemployment benefit for a duration depending on your time working here, upto a max which depends on your age...

If you have your own company here, you are not entitled to unemployment, also if you register yourself as self employed...

At the moment the job market is tough here, not seeing lots of adds at the moment (struggling to find something myself, and been here over 20 years, Swiss passport...).

As mentioned, Brexit will lead to the U.K. having quotas for permits, so will make life more difficult for Brits.
