Re: Recurring unemployment

Some people just have a different sense of humour and, in this case, I think, of parody, that's all. What seems stupid to one is wit and joking to another. What seems mean and nasty to one is cameraderie to another. And vice versa. It's okay if someone beats a different drum.

Re: Recurring unemployment

Hi, I have been on RAV for a year, then I got a part time job at a cheese stall, c20%, this counts as a ‘between job’ rather than a real job with the ALK, so they just deduct my cheese shop pay from my Arbeitslosgeld, and add the equivalent days to my time. (As I get paid just over half the hourly rate I used to, every day I work only counts as half a day extra time, and they do not do half days... last month I had 1.9 days or work, so they deducted 1.9 days pay (what I was paid) and added one day to my time. Bit peed off with that to be honest).
Anyway, I would take them up on it, in fact I was thinking of going into my closest coop and asking if they needed a part time assistant. Yes, it is not genetics research, and does not pay nearly as much, but I am really getting something out of going to ANY job and being a productive member of society again. And the knowledge that I only have c5 months left on RAV is really spurring me on to get any job that means I can pay my bills and not be on social (I hope to apply for citizenship in two years so avoiding social is very important).

In the FAQ of www.arbeit.swiss

Which translates to

You must always accept any work immediately. Unreasonable and therefore exempt from the acceptance obligation is a work that ... does not conform to the usual working conditions, does not adequately take into account your abilities or your previous job (does not apply to children under 30 years of age), does not match your personal circumstances (age, health, family), requires daily commute of more than 4 hours makes re-entry into your profession more difficult, if there is any prospect in the foreseeable future, and brings you a salary that is less than 70% of your insured earnings, unless you receive compensatory payments as part of an interim salary
As time on benefits progresses, they will conclude that this no longer applies since you have failed to obtain a new position within a reasonable time...

Well, I think you may very well fail at that. After all, you might have quite a lot of competition.

What have you been living off for the past few years? Maybe a cashier job ain’t a a bad option considering there are bills to be paid.

For the past 10 years I did not have a fixed job. I have been on chomage 4 times between 6-12 months each time. The question is that how many times one can be on unemployement benefits? I am on chomage for 8 months so far, but this time my advisor wants me to do an internship as a cashier in COOP or Migros. I have a Master degree and do not want to do it. Can he penalize me for not accepting such an internship?

Re: Recurring unemployment

As I said I had always fixed term contracts of 1-2 years in university as researcher or in industry. My salary was not bad (85-95 K peryear) but most of the times It took 6-12 months to find another job on and meanwhile I was on unemployement benefitsrecieving 70% ofmy last salary.

And the OP expects us to know what chomage is! He could have put in the translation if he wants to use French words.

Hey working as a cashier you'll have access to around 2000% more girls than in either mechanical engineering or CS. I say go for it and enjoy the time there.

He meant either Arbeitslos (AL) or Ausländer (AL) in which case both sound insulting ...
I don’t think he called anyone Arschloch (AL), it is impossible on the EF
