How to get a clear picture of entitled Swiss Benefits before end of contract?

Hi All,

Happy to connect.
I have been reading quite a handful of threads and I am still unclear on the best method to evaluate what Swiss Benefits am I entitled based on my current indefinite Consultant contract, which will end Dec 2019.
Knowing my current consultancy employer, they will not raise a finger until the end of 2019 in order to prepare the exit.

To give a bit of context:

- I am an EU procurement professional, working in Switzerland under a 5 year B permit, since Feb 2018. Would love to continue my professional career in Switzerland and in the event that I do not find another opportunity by Dec, I am currently assessing what would my alternatives.

Hopefully, some of you would be able to help guide me towards the best local authorities to contact.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Do you mean it was an indefinite contract, but it has been terminated for end December? If so, did you end it, or did the employer? This is relevant if you might have to claim unemployment benefits (RAV).

Some countries know something like a "termination benefit", but this is not standard practice in Switzerland, except if one is in the very top echelons of management, and gets a golden handshake just to go away.

Re: How to get a clear picture of entitled Swiss Benefits before end of contract?

To clarify on your previous points:

1. My standard contract is indefinite.
2. My company will end their consultancy agreement with my client at the end of the year, hence I will most probably receive a notice letter informing me about the closure of my onsite engagement.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Is there any risk if I go proactively to the Immigration Office or RAV and consultant them on this future work situation? My experience with Immigration is that they get very fussy when they hear about the termination of contract and start asking me loads of questions, mainly linked to my work permit. I would want to avoid any extra headaches.

Are you from an EU country that still has quota? If not, unemployment or RAV should not be an issue. (Not sure if that has an impact if OP is from a "quota" country, as that sjhould be over and done with per 01.07.2019?)

Re: How to get a clear picture of entitled Swiss Benefits before end of contract?

Hi,

Starting 1st of June 2019, the quota for my home country was abolished in Switzerland. I assume this is an extra argument to not have any issues in the event of actually requiring benefits.
My remaining question is, should I ask at the local Immigration Office or directly to RAV about my social rights?

Thanks to all for your valuable contributions.

Social rights? You can contact RAV and ask them what you need to do in order to apply for unemployment payments. Also check out some of the threads here, Mulhollander has translated a load of information.

If you do get laid off, start applying for jobs as soon as you have been given notice. RAV expect you to apply for about 10-12 jobs per month during the notice period.

I would start now. When they go to RAV on thr 1st of Dec, the first think RAV will do is check the applications for the last 3 months.

kanton Luzern, by my experience:

5 applications while you still work
10-12 when you are on RAV

5 applications might not be enough. I know at least one person (not me) who got penalized for not submitting enough applications during the notice period. It probably depends on if your contact person at RAV gets the impression that you are actually trying to find a new job or not.

I would not, word may get back to your employer and may actually get you fired...

Legally you dont need to until you have been given notice. There is probably only a limited amount of interesting jobs in your field, you dont want to use those up more quickly than necessary.

Ps ... its all a bit moot as october starts in 10 days, if your contract ends 31 dec youll have to start applying soon

Err, then no-one ought to look for a job while they are working? Yes, wait until you are unemployed and start looking.

Thanks for the feedback.
I actually apply to 20+ jobs every month, for the past 6 months at least. It's mostly via LinkedIN. Hope it counts.
I wouldn't worry about proof of applications.
Will check with RAV directly what my rights are.
